Folks, my humble opinion on this election follows ... I'm Canadian, take it for what it is:
DU is a community full of people who have one common dream. The end of Bush and the rethugs, for at least a few years. The primaries brought out the worst in us, and although we still had a common goal, as individuals, we see the means to that goal differently. I'm proud to see that DU has come together again to support the Democratic candidate because they know that the election is no doubt one of the most important in history. Folks have a lot riding on this. A hell of a lot.
So it stands to reason that even with all of us behind Obama, there are still going to be displays of tension, emotion, temper, joy and a multitude of other emotions on this board. I think that we all need to remember our goal and try to be a bit more patient and understanding of each other, and of each others' opinions.
I feel inspired when I hear Obama speak about anything. But what continues to inspire me the most is his talk about uniting an extremely divided country. Whether he can actually pull it off remains to be seen, but my god, I believe he's going to have a chance to try.
I remember this line from his convention speech "there is no blue America, there is no red America, there is the United States of America." That is one of the most powerful things I've heard a politician say in a long time ... and say it in a way that makes you believe he's sincere. And I believe he is.
There's a few days left. We're all together in this. You may have an opinion about an anchor that differs from someone elses. You may know about polls than some others do. You may be a positive person. You may be a negative person. You may be old, young, straight, gay, black, white, brown, purple, whatever. You may have something you're worried about and need to share the worry in order to be encouraged out of that worry. You may think the hurtle to overcome is complacency or you may be already stocking up on champagne. You may want cold hard facts, or you may just want your ears tickled.
We may be united behind Obama now, but let's also starting uniting behind one another and realize that no one here (other than obvious trolls) is purposely trying to rain on anyone's parade. People have as much right to be cocky as others have to be nervous nellies. Everyone has their point of view based on their experiences. Obama has displayed the essence of unity ... disagreeing without being disagreeable. The only way that Obama can successfully unite your beautiful country, is if you all start emulating his superb example.
Come on, you can do this, you're the freaking UNITED States of America!
