to point out that Cheney/Bush were in office when the worst terrorist attack on American soil took place and did little to prevent it. That despite being briefed from a document titled "Osama bin-Laden wants to attack America, hates America with an incandescent passion and won't rest until all of us are dead, dead, DEAD!!!" or something like that, despite recognized increased "chatter" among the ter-rists, despite his counterterrorism staff having their "hair on fire" over what they were seeing out there, that junior responded by staying on vacation.
That his Attorney General didn't even have terrorism on his radar, being much more concerned with covering up the nipples on a metal statue.
That on the morning of the attack our Commander-in-name-only froze, leaving others (as usual) to deal with the mess, only coming out of his hole when it was safe.
How after toppling the Taliban and sending al-Queda running in Afghanistan, they began planning to invade a country that had absolutely nothing with 9/11, withdrawing needed resources from where our enemies were and allowing them to escape to refuge in a lawless area of our "ally" Pakistan, where presumably they are planning further attacks on this country.
That they used 9/11 to justify a war that they had chosen to fight before they even came to power, lying about their reasons for invading Iraq, ignoring advice from the military as to the true troop levels needed and from the State Department as to what would be needed to pacify and rebuild a conquered Iraq. That Iraq, never a haven for international terrorism before we invaded, is now an active terrorist base and a killing ground for American troops and civilians. With Western Iraq no longer under any sort of control, the Saudis are now more vulnerable than ever to domestic terrorism as insurgents now have a base right next door.
That our unilateral aggression in Iraq and the threat of American incursions into Syria and Iran have alienated us from the rest of the world and any hope of the sort of collaboration among intelligence services (including some that cooperated with us after 9/11, notably the Syrians) that will really help us thwart the likes of al-Queda.
That they lied about the true duration and cost of that war, and how every dollar that goes to this war of their choice, not America's need, is one more dollar that is not going to secure our ports and other vulnerable areas, to counterintelligence resources to keep tabs on terrorists, and to those who must respond if an attack takes place.
I'm sure that there are many more talking points that can be thrown into the mix by people a lot sharper than me.
