Chuck Todd's state by state update - surprisingly bleak for Republicans
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27478547/page/4/

if you take the time to read this state by state analysis you will notice that time and time again Todd says - 'another bleak outlook for the Republicans' or 'Obama could sneak another surprise here'.

if you can't get to the end here is the best,

Wyoming: Looking for a mini-shocker? Democrats could win Dick Cheney's old House seat. Yes, it's that bleak these days for the GOP at the House level.

1. ooh, I like this bit in the first one (Alabama):
"...Tip: Keep an eye on outgoing Republican Gov. Bob Riley – his term ends in 2010. One would think he might attempt to become a player in national politics. The party will be searching for new leaders..."

New leaders, huh, 'cause it's over for the GOP ticket, both members.

3. Just voted in Wyo today
Had to vote absentee. Was thrilled to vote for the democratic candidate for our only house seat. It's a toss up right now between him and a witch Repub. The same guy (Trauner-D) almost won 2 years ago. Hopefully he can win the seat this year! Would love to see a Dem representing our state in DC!

5. I watched this live the other morning.. the quote that stuck out in my mind was Chuck saying
"it is easier to get Obama to 375 electoral votes than it is to get McCain to 270" (paraphrased)

7. Surprisingly bleak for Republicans?
Doesn't surprise me. But, you knew that didn't you?

Remember my bet, Obama and giving 30 EVs? Still feeling comfortable with that, have for months. Just no complacency.

Getting ready to de-cork my Dom Pérignon...elitism.

All the negative 'what if' threads here are effing boorish.

Luck!

10. Democrat Gary Trauner barely lost in Wyoming two years ago
He has name recognition and a funding advantage now--He has a great chance to become Wyoming's first democrat in D.C. since Teno Roncalio in the seventies. That would be sweet! :woohoo:

18. Wouldn't it be great?
I wonder if Gov. Dave has any plans when his term's up in 2 years....I think he could become a player at the national level.

24. what's the sense on the ground there, TransitJohn?
I haven't seen a poll recently, but what I can glean reading what's available of my old hometown paper (the sheridan press) online, Trauner's fundraising advantage seems pretty clear. What's the feeling in-state? Even though I haven't lived in Wyoming for several years, seeing Trauner win would be such a great treat.

I hope to see a lot more of Gov. Dave in the future :) :toast:

25. Honestly
I don't think Gary will do as well vs. Lummis as he did against a very unpopular Babs. But he has made lots of inroads with the Repubs by banging on doors for 4 years....he's comes off as totally like Gov. Dave, so anything is possible.

15. They keep sending Chuck out there saying 'keep it close...' but he just can't do it....
Chuck must be getting some powerful 'push' to find a way for McCain to score the electoral win, and he has tried... but there is only so much he can do with what he has to work with.

I keep watching Chuck and am reminded of the open mic discussion he had with Peggy Noonan ....

Chuck knows that there is no way McCain is going to get to 270, and he can't wait until the results are in so that he can explain what happened rather than construct a fairy tale for McCain that will never happen.

21. why did he leave out Colorado? Abducted by aliens?
he did Utah, where he makes some reference I don't understand, and where something MIGHT be happening (no Obama will not win, and we don't have many polls to go on but McCain dropped to 55 from 65 this last month. True Obama is only at 32. But 55%? Bush got 71% here in 2004. Don't tell me how it feels to be an isolated minority. I felt like I lived in the land of zombies after that election.)

Anyway, off point.

Why no Colorado? He did every other state and DC.

22. His analysis of the Oregon Senate race isn't quite right.
Merkley (democratic challenger) isn't going to win on Obama's coattails (although will win by a huge margin here). He's going to win because people are sick and tired of Gordon Smith (republican incumbent) playing moderate then voting like Trent Lott.

Home of Bob Jones University... and, apparently, a lot of African-American folks who are just now learning that they have POWER in this state.
