Philadelphia Phillies as Political Metaphor |
|
Don't you hate sports analogies? I do. But since when did anyone not use one when inspired?
The Phillies acted as a collective team the entire year. Aside from some very minor skirmishes, there was no internal conflict and they clearly relied on each other for support and success.
At no time did they assume they had victory in hand, at no time did they give up and just lose a game because it was 'out of reach', at no time did they play the 'blame game' when they didn't win.
All they did was go out there with purpose, with zeal, with skill, and with verve, and they won a Championship which had remained elusive in Philadelphia sports for 25 years, and for the franchise for 28 years. And with the exception of one player playfully stating "World F-----g Championship" at the Stadium yesterday, the whole team had dignity and grace throughout.
So the Obama Campaign has done the same: they rose above the denigration of the Republicans and campaigned positively, used a little humor and appropriate cynicism to put down the attacks and generally offered hope to those who have generally lost it.
All we have to do is to make sure everyone votes and let the Obama folks take care of the rest. We haven't won anything yet...that will be, hopefully, on Tuesday night after Hawaii comes in for us, and completes the 50 State Strategy.
