This isn't just a campaign, it's a MOVEMENT!
I was just two and a half years old the last time a Democratic candidate for president carried Indiana. That year, Lyndon Johnson spoke in downtown Indianapolis and I was one of the lucky few to meet him and shake his hand. I don't really remember the moment but the memory of my mom's excitement when the Democratic wave of 1964 swept Johnson into the Whitehouse and my dad into the Indiana House of Representatives made a deep impression on my young mind.

It was the excitement you feel when the good guys win. It's the excitement you feel when you think that the system really works as an agent of positive change. It's an excitement that has been hard to find through the stolen elections, lies, and reckless disregard of human rights and human life that is today's republican party.

That excitement began to build inside of me once again when we volunteered at the Obama rally at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. The positive energy of the crowd was something I hadn’t felt in years.

Today, our house is open to Obama volunteers as a distribution point for canvas materials and walk lists. We have water, soft drinks and snacks for walkers when they need to take a break. We have wireless access so they can check email and update voter response forms. A local union hall supplied tables and chairs and someone donated a brand new laser printer.

They started coming before the sun was up. Some of them traveled a few blocks, some of them traveled hundreds of miles. People of various ages, races, and backgrounds, many of whom have never participated in a campaign before in their lives, are volunteering their time because they feel that excitement.

This is happening in a state that has been written off in every other presidential election of my adult life. A state that was notorious for going “red” on the big boards before half the country had even voted.

If Barack Obama can change Indiana into a battleground state, then anything is possible.

3. Let's just call it an organized movement.
This is a level of organization that democrats in Indiana have never seen.

11. I was reading earlier pieces on him.. he stated, he wants to build organizations..
they last.. the movements die.. people paying attention, helping, lifting one another up, and being better ... well, that's what sticks.. but movement works.. but real action and organizations last..

4. It will be a movement to the extent that we convince people to stay active next year
Winning in a couple of days is only the beginning of a long, hard process.

6. Now kid, if one person walks into a place and sings the refrain from Alices Restaurant,
Why they might just think he's crazy. And if just 2 people walk into a place and sing a round of Alice's Restaurant, they might think it's a prank and just ignore it. But if three people, I mean three people walk in and sing the refrain from Alice's Restaurant, in harmony, why folks will know it's a movement. So pick it up the next time it comes around on the guitar. With gusto now... Any time...

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant. You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant. Walk right in it's a round in back. Just a half a mile from the railroad shack. Oh, You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant. 'Cept maybe Alice, at Alice's Restaurant.

;)

8. Update:
They're telling us that the volunteers dispatched from our house have knocked on more than 4000 doors today.

That's from just one of more than a dozen locations in this county alone.

Sweet!
