What State Call on Tues., Will Make You Yell: President OBAMA!
I don't believe that PA would suddenly "go red" from "blue" in a year when Repukes are the most hated vermin on the planet...so I'm assuming he will take PA. Therefore, in knowing he's going to take that certain chunk of Mid-west sates (like Iowa), my celebration will start when they call Virginia for Obama. McCain then can win Ohio, Florida, NC, etc. and it's still going to be time for the Fat Lady to sing!!! President and Mrs. Obama has a nice ring to it doesn't it??

Gato--he doesn't really need OH of FL
if he gets VA. He's going to get that group in the midwest and NM and CO (and even NV thrown in for extra measure) and, of course, the west coast. VA does it for him after ne nails PA>

38. exacto!
that's why i said if we get both fl and oh, i'll start looking for the electoral landslide. if we bury McCorpse early in the evening, freeptards, repubs and other rightwing trash in middle america and out west won't bother heading to the polls. that will put all those close western states in play and will also help with all the down ballot races.

so, i'm hoping to see obama sprint past McTurtle and burn him on the east coast before he knows what hit him.

26. Chuck Todd said this morning that NBC thinks it will be able to call Virginia...
... an hour after the vote count begins; 8:30 pm or so.

He then said that the next state to watch is OHIO, since the polls in Pennsylvania and Florida are open later. He said that Ohio is their tipping point; if NBC calls Ohio for Obama, they'll call the Presidency for him at the same time.

OHIO! O-H!! I-O!!

:bounce:

As much as I'd like to see a 50-state rout, all the exit polls are showing McCain advantage. They're very religious down here and I keep hearing the slogan "vote the party, not the person". How embarrassing that it has come to that for them.

IN and FL would make me very happy!

68. Florida will be the state.
Why? Because Obama can win without Florida, but McCain can't. If Obama wins Florida, McCain mathematically has lost, assuming the polls had some basis in reality and other states don't suddenly 'flip'.

It's those middle of the night flips that can take years off someone's life.

14. Definitely Virginia
The first states to close polls include IN, GA, and VA. Assuming Obama carries all the Gore/Kerry states (in all of which he has 10+ point leads in the polls), then if Obama wins any one of those three he is over the 270 EV threshold. Virginia is the most likely to be called first.

It's the first state to close at 7pm EST. I figure if VA goes for Obama I can start my party early. It will be 4 pm in CA and I'll have time to run to BevMo and get that bottle of expensive champaign I promised myself back in 2004. It will be nice and chilled by time my son, his girlfriend and my best friend get here after 5.

I really really really hope this is the case.

If I remember correctly, Indiana and Kentucky are the first states to have final results. If we take Indiana, it's over. If not Indiana, then Virginia. The cool part is we can lose both of those and still have many paths to a victory.

Just got back from voting. What energy. I kept hearing two songs in my head - the great "Yes We Can" song, and ... REM's "Happy Shining People" (well just the refrain) as I saw/experienced how jovial everyone was in the hour and a half line - how diverse the voting crowd was and just how elation sort of permeated the city county building.

29. Both PA and VA will be slow coming in, because neither have early voting.
But if either one can be predicted before it's all counted, that means it's going to be a big enough win for the media to go out on a limb. So for me, if either of those can be "called" before late in the evening, that's it.

70. As I remember...
the news can call a state after that state's own polls have closed... when the votes counted become definite enough to be sure of, that is.

But neither PA or VA will have any counted from early voting, so it will take at least a little time after closing for both of them to get enough in, to know. VA closes at 7 pm EST and PA closes at 8 pm EST. So 9-ish would be fast, IMO.

39. Stuff you guys just said about Chuck Todd
If he says that they think they can call VA within an hour of closing, then it's his way of saying it's in Obama's bag. Because, if it was tight, it would take them longer than an hour AND this state is not a close one right now. In other words, it won't be flipping like a zillion points in a few days to a McCain blow out.

77. Nevada decided the last two elections
And it may do so again. Regardless, I can't help Obama win in Virginia or Florida or anywhere else. I can and have mdke sure that I do everything in my power to make sure he wins Nevada.

82. California
Unless the results from the swing states take a long time, in which case it's whichever one puts him over 270.

83. Not until McCain's concession speech, and the last lawyer goes home.
I saw that McCain's people plan to take it to COURT if McCain loses :( They said they will charge that ACORN and Common Cause threw the election to Obama, and they plan to sue.

So.. no.. not celebrating until that m.f. concedes and takes his goddamn lawyers with him back to his cesspool.

84. Virginia.
Once I see PA out of danger, I'll relax a little bit. When VA goes, I will start yelling.

86. I don't think we'll "know" until the polls close in California
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 11:33 AM by OmahaBlueDog
I think the networks will be hesitant to call Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, or North Carolina until a substantial % (possibly 75%) of the count makes it clear who has won.

Florida, Virgina, Ohio: If Obama has clearly won 2 of these 3, and not taken any unexpected losses, it's over.

Georgia, Indiana: If either of these go to Barack, we'll know our landslide is coming

Pennsylvania, New Hampshire: If either of these go to McSame, it will be a very long night

87. As a Californian I wouldn't mind having this election called early
Because it's a given that we're blue. I would love to see Obama win before the red Jesusland even got their votes counted. The West coast could just put the final icing on the cake.

Californians will go vote in large numbers anyway. We have prop 8 to defeat.
