Poll question: Do we need 60 seats?
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 04:47 PM by ccharles000
Do we really need 60 senate seats? I think if we only got 57-58 we could pick off some soft repubs to vote with us. I want 60 but if we come up short one or two seats can we get some soft repubs (Snowe, grassley and Specter).

11. We need 59.
We can count on one of the two independants, Bernie Sanders.
Lieberman is the other one.

6. Ask Bill Clinton
He wasn't able to do all that much with a "Democratic congress" in his first two years, because those obstructionist assholes Dole & Newt were always in the way.

If the Susan Collins types want to vote with us, great. But 60 actual Democratic votes would be better. And that DOES include Bernie Sanders caucusing with the Dems, but Holy Joe can go fuck himself. We can't depend on his treasonous ass.

7. Need? No we need 51 seats. (Or 50 assuming that Biden is VP.)
60 will help of course, but it is not a requirement. The last time either party had this sort of majority was 30 years ago - 95th Congress (1977-1979).

9. If the Dems fall short, the GOP is afraid some moderate Rs might give him a
filibuster-proof majority anyway. Works for me.

10. If there are 57-58 then there will be severe pressure on Senators from Democratic States

It also shouldn't be assumed tht all Democrats will be on board

12. Hmm. NuKuLar Option?
Just sayin. I think we need 60. But 58 could be good enough if they are combined with the right situation and a small amount of guts.

13. NO. I believe Obama will be able to build a consensus for the things that he really wants to get
done.

That's how much faith I have in him.

15. Yes please. Let's show them what Democrats can do.
Democratic power to turn things around.

Republicans use their numbers in tactical ways all the time. If things are too close they will be thinking of rustling numbers of votes for political machinations rather than national needs.

Let us take the reins so we can jump the country forward toward alternative energy, high speed rail networks and national health insurance.

Let the GOP bid for more seats in the midterm elections. Let them present candidates who can demonstrate that they are willing and able to join in the positive agenda to rebuild America's economic health and international security.
