I just wanted to give a shout out to all the Republicans for Obama that I know. They have been some of the hardest working volunteers I have met this past year. Living in a red area, I know lots of closet Republican Obama supporters. They would never offer that information to their friends. But I also know several who are quite open in their support for Barack Obama. They are ashamed at what their party has done to this country and feel they have to work hard to make a difference.
Leaving my home at 9:40 am this morning, I got to our staging area, and was checked in by an Obamacan. As I waited for my walk packet, and Obamacan that has been sign waving at our local early voting place struck up a conversation about how we were polling at 50/50 R/D this time. That is actually good news around here. If half the early voters were Democrats, we might actually take my red county. Another Obamacan walked in with her Democratic friend to get their walk packets. They have been canvassing and phonebanking twice weekly (at least) for the past 5 weeks. Without exception.
I finished at 5:30, and the Obamacan was still there, and checked in my completed packets.
There are a lot of Democratic Obama supporters around here who can’t be bothered to do anything but vote. Several I know will vote for Obama grudgingly, because they are not “crazy about Obama”; they like Hillary better. Well, these Obamacans have kicked their asses, in my opinion. They have been awesome, and I have to recognize them. I hope you all can appreciate them too. They are what will push us over the top here in Florida.
That said – today was the biggest difference making canvass I have ever been involved with. This is the last day of early voting here in Pasco County. There were literally two families that, after I informed them, left to go vote. They thought they had tomorrow, too. Another two Obama supporters were going to mail in their absentee ballots on Monday. Luckily, I told them it was too late, and they needed to go drop them off in person today at their SOE early voting location, or at their Precinct on Tuesday. What I did today made a real, quantifiable difference to get Obama elected; it was exhilarating.
If you can, please, PLEASE volunteer this weekend, Monday or Tuesday. We need you. Democrats and Republicans for Obama!
Peace.
