*Volunteers* check in--11/01/08
26 people took 20 packets out of our house today

:bounce:

Great response given the GOP area they were canvassing in.

Did you volunteers? There are still openings!! Call today!! "The kids" at the Obama offices are still there-trust me.

19. Me, too!
Made about seven dozen phone calls. Left messages for most of them but did get a few folks live on the phone. Only one of them said she was voting for McCain. The rest were absolutely delighted to tell me they were Obama supporters.

Our volunteer office was PACKED with people. I was so glad to see this!

4. Knocked on doors for the first time
It was actually pretty fun. They gave me a list of Obama supporters and I went to them and told them about early voting, where to vote and gave them info. I went alone because I live in a small town and there are only a handful of volunteers. I am probably going to go back election day as I work tomorrow & monday.

All in all, its alot more enjoyable than I thought it'd be.

31. I'm just going to Obama supporters to remind them to vote
I'm not registering new voters or persuading voters, just going to know Obama supporters and talking to them. Going to undecideds may be different.

6. I worked here in NM. I only did 22 houses, but I'm going to hit 40 tomorrow
to finish my packet. I've got another volunteer who is going to ride along with me to help me keep going (she'll be phonebanking, I'll be door-knocking)! Then I'll work for a couple of hours after I finish work Monday.

9. I canvassed in NH today.
It was a beautiful day today, so not too many at home. NH is very conservative-in the old Yankee way-but there are a lot of old Yankee Republicans voting for Obama.

12. I canvassed today!
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 06:46 PM by Diamonique
The east side of Detroit. We knocked on 104 doors. And I'm going back to do it again tomorrow.

This is obviously a deep blue area, and everybody I talked too was fired up and ready to go!

I only met one person (an older gentleman) who said he's not comfortable with Obama because he's gonna take away our guns. I told him that Obama fully supports the 2nd amendment, but he didn't believe me. He did say, though, that his wife has already voted absentee for Obama. Hers is the name that was on our list. The gentleman was quite nice... even apologized for not believing us about the guns.

Other than him, everybody was voting for Obama, and prepared for long lines.

15. 70 calls today.
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:03 PM by Orsino
Most of these, of course, were no-answers (NH) or answering machines (LH, y'all know the script). I spoke with only 7 people (not counting those who hung up on me). One real live McCain supporter (who was very courteous), and two who wanted to come volunteer for Obama.

My phone battery was about dead by then, as was my wife's (she managed 80 calls). We're taking our adapters with us tomorrow. Tonight, it's hot tea for sore throats.

(edit: oh, yeah; I won't be sitting around on Election Day driving myself crazy--I'll be a "runner")

22. In the last month or so, I've knocked on over a thousand doors (two- three nights/wk).
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:26 PM by NoMoreLurking
Probably recruited close to 100 volunteers total. About half of the repubs I spoke to said they were voting Obama this time though they were lifelong repubs. Almost all seemed to realize the need for change. I got a few stinkers here and there but not many, and I have to say, I was mostly able to have fun with them because over the course of the discussions most knew that they were either under-informed or just being stubborn Limbaugh spouters. I've done some data management and tomorrow my husband and I will phone bank. I'm also getting trained tomorrow for election protection. Monday probably more phone banking. Tuesday at the polls all day! I'm exhausted right now but I know that this feels much better than how I felt in 2000 and 2004.

27. Over 3000 doors knocked today!
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:34 PM by AyanEva
We had about 43 volunteers or so, most from New York (THANKS NEW YORK!), over 3000 doors knocked in Wards 11 and 38 in Philadelphia. :) I hope I did an OK job training everyone for canvassing. :O I don't go canvassing myself very often now, I train everyone else but during the summer I was able to knock hundreds of doors and call hundreds of people.

The New Yorkers who come in never fail to totally blow me away with their dedication, determination, and selfless attitudes. <3

We're also starting to finally get more Philly volunteers in our wards; it's good to see more people getting involved locally.

Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:39 PM by Bonn1997
3 hours each way. It's a pretty cool area. They have tons of fascinating palm trees. I knocked on about 50 doors and I think I may have gotten a couple of people to go to vote early who otherwise wouldn't have, but it's impossible to know. I've been told it's a Republican city but I saw about as many Obama as McCain signs. Maybe they didn't put us in any conservative leaning neighborhoods, though.

33. Phone banked at our city's Teamster's office
called voters in Colorado and tried to schedule volunteers to phone bank here in the Bay Area.

talked to some very nice people in both places. the folks i spoke to in the Bay Area often were volunteering already and scheduling themselves to do more.

tomorrow i go to Reno to help make sure people turn out in Nevada.

i've never traveled for a campaign before, but you know how it is with Barack, you end up doing a lot more than you did before and certainly more than you planned.

as President I wonder what he could convince the American people to do, what he could convince them to do that they wouldn't ordinarily do.

think about that. we are on the edge of something great, greater than we realize.
