The Republicans are not "all-powerful". They're just really good at screwing up Democratic voter registration, balloting, and vote counts. They're batting 1000 in the last two presidential elections.

Stop with the fear and conspiracies. The Republicans are trying to do some dirty tricks this cycle, but Obama and the Democrats countered most of these tactics and efforts. There hasn't been any massive voter purges, and as long as we get our supporters to the polls, we will win.
The republicans don't have much power this election, and the Democrats have the lawyers are prepared for anything. We are the ones coming up top this election cycle.

These things seem like a lot of concerned push by fear, but little hard evidence for it.
My biggest concerned is actual purging people from the voter rolls, but it seems like these efforts have been unsuccessful for the most part in 2008. There are going to be some efforts every election cycle, but it is not like that republicans are all powerful.

20. While I like your sentiment... |
|
Let's realize that the psychological abuse of the last 8 years is deep. We have had so many lies shoved down our gullets "for our own good and the good of the country" that it begins to take a toll on what you're able to believe in as far as hope and goodness. I don't know how many of you can understand the analogy...
but after being in an abusive marriage I can understand the psychology of not wanting to DARE to hope for a better life. It is a scary thing and you are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. This administration has abused us ALL in some way or another. It is a sick pscycological game, and until Obama locks them up and takes control of the Oval Office...many of us will be afraid to say it's okay... Until the abuser is behind bars, even sometimes when you KNOW he is locked up...you still see him around corners and fear that strange phone call in the wee hours of the night. Fear is real, not just a demand for attention. When one has been abused so much and it has been a collective phenomenon...excuuse me for being hesitant until MARCH of next year!!!
the best you can do is just hold the light of hope for those of us who are faltering. and encourage us to take action, because the fear has a way of paralyzing us...it is a complex thing, but VERY real. Would you tell a friend who had suffered abuse to "get over it" and stop begging for attention. No, you would hold their hand as they mustered the strength to take control of their life again...and you would encourage them as they took the years needed to find themsleves and their sense of hope again.
let's support one another, we ARE all on the same side right?

21. I understand that there are times in peoples lives that can be difficult and |
|
change the way they view life. But this is not a marriage and no one was physically abused here by politics. It is time for some here to move beyond the last 8 years and realize that that time is over.
There are situations that require hand holding and there are situations that require a good kick in the shins. I'm seeing too many here that are not requesting a hand to hold and a boost to their morale. No, they want to drag everyone else into the 'oh woe is me' gutter with themselves and that has got to stop.
Yes we are all on the same side and that is why instead of dragging others down these people need to request the hand up.

24. Maybe others are just attention hogs and want to be wet blankets |
|
but you are making something very deep and damage to the psyche as a collective into something very cut and dry and failing to use your compassion.
marriage to our country IS a real analogy...especially for those who are "trapped" in this downward spiral of 8 years of crap (I can't just leave the country i I don't like it, I am too poor to even leave my current city of residence). I am looking forward to Tuesday and a win...but until the damaging people are stripped of power to some degree, don't forget that it can happen again. we ARE still vulnerable as a nation, our wounds were REAL and still Are.
You need to be a little more understanding I think. and put it into proper perspective. many of us were truly wounded by this administration, our lives WERE affected by these policies and problems, and the hope factor isn't a cure all for 8 years of damage. We have a lot of work to do yet, and some of us should be helping our fellow Americans more and some of us should be helping ourselves more...but the tide will take some time to turn. let's be realistic, too.

44. There's a BIG difference between election fraud of the past 8 years |
|
and what one saw historically.
With computerized often unauditable "voting" and proprietary software protected by trade secrets, fraud can (and has been) carfried out on a massive centralized scale- and in every instance I'm aware of the suspect results and HIGHLY improbable statistical anomalies favored Republican candidates.
And in many cases, there's NOTHING that can legally be done about.
Rather than adotping something rational, hassle free, inexpensive, and subject to random hand counted audit, stupid Americans around the country have spent big money to essentially disenfranchised themselves!
And I hate to say it- but part of me thinks that they deserve what they get.

The Oregon system is so simple and proven- hassle free and accountable that it just boggles the mind why states insist on spending money for dysfunctional proceses, with long lines and the inevitable lawsuits.

|
I've noticed that most of the posts about potential election fraud contain arguments with supporting evidence, whereas the posts of the few who cannot tolerate anti-election fraud posts just contain statements that look closer to blind hope. And please don't talk down to us who are fighting against election fraud. I drove 6 hours yesterday from Montgomery to Pensacola and then back to volunteer on the ground and I donated more money to Obama's campaign. I believe election fraud is a real threat and want to do everything I can to get turnout high enough that we have too high a win margin for the election to be stolen.
