9. Would be interesting to poll all candidate supporters |
|
That way we can get an idea about which candidates have energized the Internet base.

it wasn't January that I joined but very close to it.
I 'think' the point is to try and show that Clark supporters are "johnny-come-lately" trouble makers or something on that order  but that doesn't work with me since I have been here since the beginning.

10. Statement about the purpose of the poll |
|
Explaining the purpose might skewer the results. I'll explain it to anyone who PMs me after they vote.

15. I'll explain it for you for everyone then... |
|
You're trying to "prove" or "disprove" that most of Clark's supporters are fairly new to DU.
What that will accomplish, I do not know.

11. Burt. I request you conduct this poll with ALL supporters and have them |
|
identify their candidate..many people have joined from BOTH camps...DU has attracted MANY MANY supporters for both Dean and Clark..as well as others.
What better place to campaign than a site that wants to beat Bush.

22. Not sure when I joined exactly, but the first post I can remember.. |

making was about how I could make a better argument against the Iraq War, so it was sometime around March or April. I had no idea who Clark was at the time.
I'm really shocked at the degree of vitriol (I knew it would exist to some extent because of the fact that he's a military officer and was deeply involved in the war in the balkans, but...) that a loud few have displayed against Clark and his supporters. Most of them seem to think that guilt-by-association (finding relationships with other suspicious people or activities without proof of direct involvement in unethical behavior) is a valid argument, and that taking statements out of context is also valid. Apparently people like me are "pseudo-liberals and faux Democrats" simply because we disagree with these opinions about Clark, and apparently there is nothing that will convince some otherwise. I'm really, really tired of it.

Clark is a good guy, I think, who'd make a good nominee, and if Michael Moore and Charlie Rangel are any indication, being a progressive and a Clark supporter is clearly not anomalous.

I registered at DU in late October, however, I found this site in March, when the war was starting and became an addictive lurker. At that time, I didn't even really know who any of the candidates were, and had never even heard of Clark.
I became a Clark supporter on the basis of information and links on this site. I did not come here from a Clark site to advocate for my candidate. I would have eventually registered here even if Clark had never entered the race, and I would probably be a hard core Dean supporter, as he was my only possible choice before Clark entered.
I often find myself feeling resentful of insinuations that Clark supporters are only here to spam the board with pro-Clark messages, and that we are somehow not real DUers. I will continue to be here as an active member if Clark does not win the nomination.
I would also like to see a similar poll for Dean supporters, since I have noticed that many of the most active and prolific ones have also only been here for a short time.
I think that many new people supporting all the candidates have been swarming to this site since the primary season has heated up, which is only natural, since it seems to be about the most active Democratic site out there.
