Bush and Cheney ---Riding the storm out ? |
|
They will depend on journalists like Matthews and Dobbs to pull their nuts out of the fire and this should all blow over in two or three days....It'll be like Hurrican Frances over Florida...It came and went in two or three days.
The media will do their best to assist them. It doesn't matter if is true or not. Only this time, it seems to have a lot of truth to it - unlike the Swift Boat story, that contradicted all documentation, including the US Navy - and they chewed it up for about 3 weeks. They probably can't wait for the next Swift Boat ad?

2. Edwards was right. Cheney's remark was deliberate & calculated. |
|
This was a planted remark and the media will try to use it to paint Kerry into a corner. Now what would be the best way to handle this?

You'll Die-gate? or Service-gate?
(Even though I know the answer is the same to both)

8. Boy, that CYA memo from his commanding officer was a smoking gun |
|
if ever there was one. He flat out says that strings are being pulled for him to give a favorable report. Too bad the guy's dead.
There are two principal issues (and issues of principle) with this story: 1) he shirks responsibility and lies about it, and 2) his is a life of privilege, given chances and help mere plebeians can hardly even dream of. These are issues of character, and track throughout his life and career.
Kerry's current "tying it all together" riff is a very good one: make a unified field theory of the lies, distortion, privilege, misdirection of resources and reckless greed; this smacks of the truth, and is something people can get a handle on. People want simple explanations, and one way of giving one is to trace innumerable ills to the same root cause.
