Like the French refuse to use "internet" even though it's an American invention with a short but sweet name. They call it something convoluted in French instead. I prefer the Japanese way of handling words of foreign origin-- they adopt them and then usually end up abbreviating them in a Japanese way like personal computer (or PC) becomes a persocon, which then becomes Japanese. Kinda like how we handle portmanteaus. Anyway, that's a tangent. You don't really see too many Americans sneer at using words or phrases adopted from the French like deja vu, menage a trois, tete-a-tete or champagne. Hopefully, we'll see much warmer relations now. :)

...their own language is so magnificent I wouldn't want grubby English taking over either! But I'm biased, it's my favourite country on earth (well, after my own) - I love the way they take pity on you when you TRY to speak French...as long as you try, they're cool!
