1. I held it together until he spoke and talked about the 106 year old lady. |

2. Hell, I cried all day long. I cried when I voted. I cried when I volunteered. |
|
By the time he gave his victory speech, I was sobbing like a baby.

6. I didn't cry as much as experienced a profound calm coming over me... |
|
I talked more softly with my family. I walked a little more slowly around the house. Everything seemed to have a purpose.
I was at peace... Something I haven't felt for quite some time.

i'm tearing up now just thinking about yesterday. i took the day off work today in case the concession speech was going to be late last night. i took my usual walk around the pond today and marveled at how wonderful the day was . . . the weather was perfect and one of the ladies i always see at the pond was thrilled to see my obama shirt (i live in a small republican-leaning enclave - lots of wealthy retirees). she is euphoric as well.
we agreed however that we have only just begun and that we will help president obama (doesn't that sound GREAT!) in any way he asks us . . . i am assuming that does not include telling us to go shopping. i don't need a president to tell me that. :headbang:

17. Nope, I didn't get choked up until I heard John Lewis on the radio this morning |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 08:44 PM by Bucky
That's when it hit me. As a white guy, when I look at Obama, I just see another guy: a very smart guy and a sharp, aggressive lawyer, but really just a guy.
But when John Lewis talked about what he went through--the beatings, the marches, the attacks, the loss of friends by racist terrorists--to help create a country that lives up to its own credo, that's when I felt it. That's when I realized that it was something more than patriotism or racial pride or a sense of equality many of my African American friends were feeling. They were sensing a weight lifted off of them.
I sensed a weight lifting off of me Tuesday, but as a teacher who has to hide the fear when one of my kids signs up for the army or marines. It's not personal, just sympathy. It's not a statement of who I am; it's a concern I choose because of my values, but it's not my ass on the line. It's a concern I'll always have the option of walking away from, even if I never take that cowardly road.
Last night all of America said "This is our leader; this is our guy." I'll never know entirely what that feels like because I've never really known oppression or the threat of oppression. But for just a moment this morning, the very eloquent John Lewis gave me a taste of what this is on a level deeper than my words can convey; this is a lifting of a powerful burden--maybe only temporarily--that our country & culture can never equally share.
I'm proud of my president; I'm proud of my country. I hope and believe last night started to erase the burden of our differences.

|
I was almost moved to drive over to Republican areas and set them off. But I figured I was enjoying myself enough without getting the police involved.

23. Yes, I sure was. Especially after seeing scenes of Black Americans collapsing in tears. |

That just made me blubber like a baby. I think my freeper mother even shed a few tears.
I am so proud to witness and be a part of this historic Election. The best person for the job prevailed.
