Sioux county, Iowa. Why does it vote so disproportionally republican? |
|
I was watching at some election maps and noticed how out of touch Sioux couty is. It voted: McCain 13,440 Obama 3,010
Then I checked 2004 results and it voted for Bush 14,200 to 2,200...
Iowans, care to explain why this county is so out of touch? I mean there are other republican counties too but very few vote so disproportionally republican...

Maybe all that runoff finally has seeped into the brain tissues. We have not a clue, except that that is the home of the Dutch Reformed Church, which is about as right as it gets..
I am not Christian bashing here, Committed Christian myself. But some sects are lost in interpretations that is beyond explaining, except fear

2. This is Steve King's district. He's famous for being right of Tancredo |

And I really do not know. Last time I was out there (we live near Iowa City) it was like getting in a time machine and going back 30 years. That whole area out there - western Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and I will guess Western Minnesota - is pretty right wing and almost totally white. Few big cities. Pretty much an environment where the GoOPers message thrives.
