the public schools in DC suck. The only reason to send them to the inferior DC public schools is for propaganda. Shame on you for suggesting he use his daughters as propaganda tools.

We don't have royalty in this country. Those elected to serve and/or represent the people should live like the peole. Besides, I'd be willing to bet those schools would improve real quick if the children of top govt officials attended them.

You just voted for Obama, you don't own him or those kids. They can send their kids anywhere they please. If that means sending them to private schools, so be it. I would do the same damn thing if I were in their shoes. These people are human beings. They are just politicians elected to carry out the agenda they promised during the campaign. They have private lives they maintain outside of their political roles.

How would that work? How many Secret Service per classroom? What about the teachers, would they have to be vetted? Would the school be on lock-down 24/7? What about the parents picking their kids up from school? That might be a little hairy.

Malia and Sasha have parents...parents for whom I have a bit of respect. I trust them to do whatever they need to for their daughter's safety and happiness. If they feel that their children will be safer in private school, why would I try to second guess that? If they want their children to go to DC public schools, that's their decision, too.

58. Someplace where they will not only get a good education but be SAFE according to the SS... |
|
And that, my dears, means a private school. This is no time to try out a fantasy of political correctness.
Parents who are diplomats and such have to consider these things when living in a foreign capital, and there are no doubt some very good private schools in and around DC where Sasha and Malia will be among a relatively diverse student body (and by that I mean from different places on the planet) of a similar social class (parents in high political office) where they will not stand out like freaks ("Oooo, she's the President's daughter. I bet she thinks she's special").
The administration, staff, and teachers will be accustomed already to what the Secret Service would like to check up on (you think a Saudi prince's child would be allowed to attend a school that wasn't thoroughly vetted?).
I believe Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter attended a nice Quaker school with a long history.

And why would it be any more difficult for a public school to be safe than a private one? These private schools are surrounded by high walls and barbed wire, are they? And you really think there's less mimetic competition among the children of diplomats than the children of mail carriers, dentists, and cab drivers?
