Things that will not happen in the next year.
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 04:09 PM by Occam Bandage
1. Bush/Cheney will not be impeached.
2. Bush/Cheney will not be prosecuted for any crimes by anyone.
3. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi will not step down from their current leadership positions.
4. Obama will not pull all American troops out of every country everywhere.
5. Obama will not dissolve the Department of Homeland Security.
6. Obama will not create a Department of Peace.
7. Obama will not have a cabinet without any Republicans in it.
8. The Obama Administration will not push for marriage equality.
9. The economy will not improve overnight.
10. The economy will not get better until it gets worse.

Things that will happen in the next year.
1. The tax code will be reformed to be more progressive.
2. The criminal excesses of the Bush administration will be ended.
3. Our foreign policy will be marked by leadership through cooperation with the world community.
4. America will start responsibly bringing the Iraq war to a close.
5. Our economic policy will become more sustainable.
6. A far-reaching, progressive economic stimulus package that is infrastructure- and jobs-based will be passed.

If you can deal with that, then great, you were paying attention for the last two years. If any of this comes as a surprise, then I would advise reading news sources that do not start with "www."

2. I think that's about right
And if all that you mention on the second list I'll be happy with that. I would like health care to happen too but with the current economic crisis there's no way that happens in the first year.

5. If the economy picks up, I think we might see a health care push in 2011. If it doesn't,
then we'll have to wait until 2014 or so. That's my take, at any rate...

4. I like that list of things that will get done, the tax code revised, the better foreign policy
That is why I voted for Obama and Biden!

6. I would add to that list
6. An economic stimulus package much more bold and far-reaching than any thought likely when Obama was elected.

Not quite New Deal II, but close.

9. I actually considered adding that one, but decided it was covered under "ending criminal excesses."
Still, thanks for explicitly bringing it up. That was great news when I read it.

11. it kills me to see so much negativity overall

We finally elect a President who can actually, speak, plan, read and think, the light at the end of a tunnel, and wow, I can't believe all the complaining. For God's sake, the man doesn't even take office until January.

I swear, some folks seem to have no idea how govt and legislative processes work...

13. How do you "know" all that? Do you have a crystal ball?
Like how do you know Bush and Cheney won't be prosecuted? As I said before, it's just opinions.

19. You're about right.
I'm sorry to hear that Pelosi and Reid will still be in power...but as long as they follow Obama's lead, they'll be okay.

22. That's pretty much it in a nutshell and I'll be...
happy as hell to get even 4 out of 6 on your list accomplished in the first year. My expectations are high, but logic and pragmatism keep me grounded even though my feet are still in the clouds since the election.

23. You Forgot: MANY/MOST Of Bush's Most Heinous Executive Orders Will Be REVERSED
This will probably happen in the first 100 days.

This includes Mexico City gag rule, stem cell research limitations and CO2 emission issues.
