Obama daughters asked to appear on "Hannah Montana"
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama's two young daughters have been invited to appear on popular kids television show "Hannah Montana," actor Billy Ray Cyrus said an interview aired on Monday.

Cyrus, the father of "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus and also an actor on the hit Disney Channel show, said the show had asked Malia, 10, and Sasha Obama, 7, to take part in an episode possibly around April.

"They probably will. The invitation is there," Cyrus told Access Hollywood in an interview. "You know the 'Hannah Montana' film comes out in April. Maybe something might happen around then."

Pressed for details, Cyrus said; "I can't, I can't. I have got to keep a secret."

"Hannah Montana", in which Miley Cyrus plays a school girl with a secret life as a pop star, is one of the most popular kids television series in the United States with a huge audience and merchandising empire worth about $1 billion.

Obama has said in interviews that Malia is a big fan of "Hannah Montana," but the Obamas have shielded the girls from the media and it remains to be seen whether they will want their daughters to take part in the show.

Miley Cyrus, who turns 16 later this month, told Access Hollywood she did not know for certain if the offer had gone out, but she added; "I think that would be really cool and if anything, have them visit the set."

His daughters' ambitions are to go to Yale before becoming an actress (Malia, 10)
and to sing and dance (Sasha, 7)

Those little girls remind me so much of my daughters, it isn't even funny!

They both wanted to be actresses and to sing and dance.

8. It's the most popular show in the world for kids ages 8-14
Why would they steer clear of a show that is that popular?

I hate the show. I think it's lame.
But, I am not the shows target audience.

In addition, Ron Cyrus -- Billy Ray's father and Mylie's Grandfather-- was very active in the Democratic party in Kentucky.

Bio:

He was elected a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for Kentucky's 98th Legislative District, which encompasses Greenup County, in 1975. He was elected to 11 consecutive terms--serving a total of 21 years--until he retired from office in 1996. Cyrus served as executive secretary and treasurer of the AFL-CIO.

given that Billy Ray has been touring with Sean Hannity on his Freedom Tour.

... because if they appear on the show, it's an endorsement of it. I doubt that the Obamas want their children to be used to advertise for Disney.

38. If Malia loves it and wants to do it, let her
most of the people who work on the sets over at Disney TV are decent, liberal types. I'm sure she'd have some fun. If her dad did SNL, then why can't she have a little guest spot on her favorite TV show?

One of my wifes guilty pleasures is occassionally watching disney channel because it's fluffy and always has a happy ending. She only really started watching after we had to babysit somebody and they wanted to watch it all day long. You should probably make an attempt to know what you're talking about before talking about it.

9. Bad idea. They'll probably turn it down.
I can see them maybe visiting the set and meeting the stars, but I doubt Barack and Michelle would actually go along. They're extremely protective of the girls' privacy and won't even let the girls in interviews anymore after the one Access Hollywood. The girls are gonna have enough going on with their dad as President-- this is not the time for show biz.

And a lot of little girls want to be singers or dancers or actresses. They'll grow out of it when they realize that it's not all that its cracked up to be and that most aspiring entertainers never get anywhere. And I can imagine that after 4 or 8 years in the spotlight as first daughters, they might end up wanting lower profile careers for themselves later on.

41. Disney is fighting the "gay agenda" and propagandizing heterosexuality.

I'm only half-kidding. I personally regard Disney as socially toxic. Glorification of monarchies. "Someday my prince will come" ... because that's what a woman needs. The only animals worth loving are the cute ones that emulate human beings. Ugly=bad and pretty=good. (We can tell who's a bad person by looking at them. They're not attractive.)

Disney fills kids heads with memes they never get rid of.

If my daughter was invited on the Hannah Montana show and I said no, there would be hell to pay. I don't want to imagine the damage caused by TWO pissed off little girls. One is bad enough. :scared:

My two cents: read the script then decide if this is a battle worth fighting.

18. The kids would probably love to visit the set. Not sure about bit
parts though. I guess there isn't really much harm in it, if the girls have some fun and don't miss out on their education because of it, well that's really a choice for their parents to make. Though it is kinda exploitive of the first daughters new status, then again that's modern capitalism for you.

37. ya... simple cameos would be win-win for everybody
I think younger kids would get a thrill out of seeing the 2 girls and obviously they would love being a part of the show.

Let's get real.

These 2 girls ARE celebrities. Keeping them out of the press frenzy isn't the same as making them invisible.

A handful of positive stories and messages involving them over the next couple years is vital. Folks can whine about Disney or whatever, but it's about changing attitudes and positive role models for the next generations.

39. she wasnt completely sheltered at all
She even did public performances as a teen dancer, if i remember right.

Her relation with the media was just carefully controlled and the media backed off her. If the Obamas allow a handful of publicity events over the years for the 2 girls, it can certainly be done in an understandable "back off" message to the media. In fact, it could help send that message.

31. I once heard a sit-com producer ask if they could get
the Pope to do a guest shot. The Pope. Wanted to know if the Pope had a set fee for TV. I am not making this up, nor could I. So yeah, ego freego.
I devoutly hope the Obamas don't get into the kid exploitation thing. It is one hell of a fine line, and thus far the Obamas have been very good about the kids. I admire that. I hope the hold to it. It is hard, 'cause no doubt the girls want to be on that show, but that does not mean it is a good choice. It would not be.

45. I, too, am glad you don't have daughters that age, given your addiction to calling young girls WHORE

Any woman or, it would seem, 15 year old girl who you for some abstract pull-it-out-of-your-ass reason, deem to not think as you do is automatically labeled a WHORE.

You get OFF on using that slur. It turns you on.

Like the little kid who places a tack on the teacher's chair. It gets you off.

If you did have daughters, I wonder how often you would refer to them as whores?

How sad for them.

40. Miley is the grandaughter of popular Democratic Congessman Ron Cyrus
Ronald Ray “Ron” Cyrus was a popular Democratic politician and public servant in Greenup County, Kentucky. He was the father of American country music singer/actor Billy Ray Cyrus and the grandfather of actress/singer Miley Cyrus.

He was elected a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for Kentucky's 98th Legislative District, which encompasses Greenup County, in 1975. He was elected to 11 consecutive terms--serving a total of 21 years--until he retired from office in 1996.

Cyrus served as executive secretary and treasurer of the AFL-CIO and was employed as a rigger with Armco Steel Ashland Works.
served in the United States Air Force in Japan. He served as founding Chairman of the Board of the Billy Ray Cyrus Charities Foundation and was a devoted member of Big Woods Community Church in Wellington, Kentucky.

Cyrus was 70 years old when he died on February 28, 2006. The song "I Miss You" by Miley Cyrus was written for him and is featured on her 2007 album Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. The song "Hey Daddy" by Billy Ray Cyrus is also dedicated to him, on the album "Wanna Be Your Joe". Billy Ray sang this song to Ron Cyrus the night before his passing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Cyrus

It's a very popular show with young kids, don't see the harm in the Obama girls appearing on it. Since both families are Democrats.

That being said,I hope the Obama girls stay away from the marketing schemes of the television industry.
