Poll question: Do You Want Lieberman to Have Subpoena Power to Investigate President Obama?
The little traitor would love to become a Ken Starr!

Do You Want Lieberman to Have Subpoena Power to Investigate President Obama?

Robert Greenwald

Posted November 11, 2008 | 12:22 PM (EST)

Joe Lieberman has launched consistent, deeply partisan attacks on President-elect Barack Obama, questioning his patriotism and fitness to lead. While Lieberman campaigned for John McCain and spoke on his behalf at the Republican National Convention, he spread some of the GOP's nastiest smears. Think Progress has provided thorough evidence of Lieberman's partisan politics. Lieberman should not be allowed to have subpoena power to investigate the Obama administration as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. In fact, he should not be allowed to remain chairman of this or any other committee.

2. Lieberman needs to be kicked out of the party
and stripped of his committee duties. He's nothing but a traitor. Screw him.

3. Lieberman blocked hearings on the handling of Katrina
thus breaking a promise he made to hold hearings. He can't be trusted.

5. List of senators to call
We have included a sample script and phone numbers below for you to use, and we ask that you be polite when you explain why Lieberman Must Go.

Senator _________, my name is _________. I'm a registered Democrat and a resident. I urge you to vote to strip Joe Lieberman of his committee chairmanship when the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee meets to discuss his future. A man who spent the entire election season demeaning Senator Obama's patriotism and his qualifications for office cannot be trusted with oversight authority over the Obama administration. Joe Lieberman is not a Democrat, and he should not enjoy the privileges of being a member of the majority party. Will you vote to strip Lieberman of his committee chairmanship?

Senator Debbie Stabenow, Michigan, Chair
(202) 224-4822

Senator Harry Reid, Nevada
(202) 224-3542

Senator John Kerry, Massachusetts
(202) 224-2742

Senator Daniel Inouye, West Virginia
(202) 224-3934

Senator Robert Byrd
(202) 224-3954

Senator Edward Kennedy, Massachusetts
(202) 224-4543

Senator Joseph Biden, Delaware
(202) 224-5042

Senator Patrick Leahy, Vermont
(202) 224-4242

Senator Christopher Dodd, Connecticut
(202) 224-2823

Senator Tom Harkin, Iowa
(202) 224-3254

Senator Max Baucus, Montana
(202) 224-2651
Senator Richard Durbin, Illinois
(202) 224-2152

Senator Kent Conrad, North Dakota
(202) 224-2043

Senator Carl Levin, Michigan
(202) 224-6221

Senator Herbert Kohl, Wisconsin
(202) 224-5653

Senator Barbara Boxer, California
(202) 224-3553

Senator Hillary Clinton, New York
(202) 224-4451

Senator Jeff Bingaman, New Mexico
(202) 224-5521

Senator Mark Pryor, Arkansas
(202) 224-2353

Make the call today, then let us know you did and send this e-mail to your friends and colleagues (and don't forget to Digg it!). Let Democratic leaders know Lieberman represents an impediment to real change in Washington, and that is why Lieberman Must Go!

28. I called everyone on this list (except Dodd) and called AND emailed
Carper and Salazar who are rumored to be supporting Joe the Turncoat's retaining his chairmanships.

Dodd wasn't answering the phone in DC, so I called his CT office and emailed him too!

And for good measure, I called Lieberman's office and asked his spokesweasel to tell my why Joe the Rat should retain his positions after his treachery. Listening to the staffer squirm and spin was PURE delight. I don't think I was the first to call today. ;)

15. oh for pity's sake. I don't believe that Lieberman has subpoena power
he'd have to have a majority of those on the Committee vote for any subpoena or any investigation of President Obama. That's NOT going to happen. And furthermore, I'll bet anything that Lieberman doesn't lift a fucking finger against Obama. I do, however, hope the Dem Senate caucus strips him of his chairmanship.

20. He can use the Chair to block investigations and bottle up legislation
plus, he will use the access he will gain by virtue of being the Chair to undercut the Obama Administration and subvert peace efforts in the Middle East.

So...why not?

Who cares?

It's not like you have to do anything if you get a subpoena, right???

21. He wouldn't have subpoena power as chair
Subpoenas could only be issued if a majority votes them - and you can bet that if Lieberman stays on as chair, Senate leadership would make sure that the Committee has enough of the right Democrats to keep Lieberman pretty bottled up.

Obama isn't an idiot - he's not proposing a scenario that's going to allow Lieberman to abuse him. He knows just what he's doing.

Obama gives Joe the "LBJ treatment"

Using forceful, but not angry, hand gestures, Obama literally backed up Lieberman against the wall,

25. A subpoena can't even get the new puppy into court these days.
Joey can subpoena until the cows come home, nobody will bother to show up. Hell, even the maid who changed Obama's linens at the Super 8 Motel in 1994 will have executive privilege thanks to precedents set by Bushco.

if they came up empty handed during the campaign they will now, what makes anyone think such an investigation has not already taken place behind closed doors so to speak.
