I will probably be blasted with flame throwers for this op.. but here goes
I really wish that the expectations being put on Obama could calm down a little. No human being could possibly even begin to meet the needs and wants being put on him..

The last eight years have literally demoralized the entire world. Because of that, this pressure for Obama to turn it around in a day seems to be building.

I hope it is just jubilation, and not expectations.

Unmet expectations leads to disappointment and demoralization.

Obama is the catalyst for us helping ourselves. There are no magic wands.

2. I think it's just jubilation.
We had Bush who ran the country in the ground. And now we have someone who is extremely intelligent, kind and caring. He has already exceeded my expectations in the way he ran his campaign. We love our man. We know he's not a miracle worker but he'll do his best.

18. I'm not so sure it's just jubilation....
is this any comparison to how many times we've heard what a disappointment the Democratic controlled Congress has turned out to be??? (the fact that they didn't have enough of a majority to override the R's doesn't seem to matter)...The people couldn't be bothered to throw Bush out in 2004, but to me it seems as though they expect Obama to take care of everything Bush did wrong in 8 years, in a couple months...Does anyone understand the depth of the mess he is being left?...Sometimes I wonder...and I begin to wonder IF it is fixable at all...wb

That dude had a plan for everything. I heard him say so, right on my teevee screen.

He knows how to run a war, how to fix the economy, how to bring the country together....but he ain't gonna TELL anyone how to do it! That's what we GET for turnin' him down! He's plannin' on keepin' the answers to perfection to himself,...... silly! :silly:

8. Rome was not built in a day and it will take more than a few
months to turn things around. A lot depends on Congress during the first few months. Not having a clear majority will require a little give and take. Things are so screwed up that I think the Republicans will be willing to work with the Democrats. The fact that Palin is looking forward to running for president in 2012 should be an incentive for both parties to get it right during the next four years.

12. I'm sorry but I think it's about time we expected MORE not LESS of our leaders.
I have FAITH that Obama is capable of MORE not less.

I think it is also time that we expect more not less of ourselves.

We must become MORE than mere consumers.

We must become citizens, savers, investors, and producers.

We must become members of a community, not merely residents.

We as John Kennedy proclaimed in 1961 ask what we can do for our coutnry and trust that Barack Obama will in turn do what he can for US.

17. He is capable, and competent, but in the end it is up to us
Your statement about "us"..hits the nail on the head.

I remember when Bush told us to go shopping after 9/11.. what a disjointed and clueless thing to say. This last administration had no "us" in it..

But I guess my op was more referencing things I have been reading in the news..

Carter insisting the first and most important thing Obama must do is settle the Palestine/Israeli.. conflict, and tackle it right away.

He MUST at the first day, find a way to get the credit markets moving

He MUST balance the budget and bring down the debt.

He MUST bring home the troops and catch Bin Laden before the spring.

He MUST bring all our schools back up to snuff.

etc., etc., etc.,

These are all things that need to be done, but I am hoping people will give him the time to do it.

20. I would bet the ranch
that when all is said and done Obama will turn out to be at minimum a good president. Whether he becomes a great president will depend on whether we protect his back. This doesn't mean we always have to agree with everything he does but we do need to keep our reality indexes intact.

21. No human being could turn this sinking ship around in 4 years...
Bush has been screwing things up for 8 years... it's going to take a lot of time and sacrifice to set us on the right path.

That said, at least we have someone ready to make the needed changes, instead of someone who would screw things up even more.

America and the entire world couldn't survive four more years! On oh, so many, many levels!

26. Hey, it's ok
He's changed history, he's a nexus for change. He's also a real human being with human faults, and I, personally never had him on a pedestal.

I am so very excited to get rid of those assholes in office and have said real human being in place. The fact that he may change our racial map for the better, is icing on the cake.

When Obama went to Kenya, and he and Michelle had a public HIV test with public results, that spoke to me of the metal of the couple. Listening to his speeches that mention issues dear to my heart convinced me will try as hard as he can and do the best he can for the human condition.

After 8 years of total and complete mismanagement, and outright evil, if I may use the term, he has a mountain to climb. Best we can do, like you say, is be part of the solution.

27. Wow. You've got a handle on reality.
We are in control. It's a supposed Democracy. The Constitution just does a good job of keeping a dictator from burning it down. But we have slowly devolved into a consumer society that expects to be fed. Give me my leadership. Give me the fruits of democracy without being involved.

Obama is gifted. But he can't lift an entire nation alone.
