Poll question: Who is most qualified to be Secretary of State?
This isn't asking who you might want, but who you think is the most qualified.

1. I'm sure there is someone more qualified than the big three but they are probably
not going to get considered.

19. I really, really hope that you are wrong.
I don't think we need a "superstar" in the SoS office. I don't want it to be a trophy position. Keep in mind that one of the wonderful things about an SoS is that s/he does not have to be native-born.

I want someone multi-lingual in that position. I want someone who has LIVED ABROAD in that position.

We've got a lot of far more qualified people, and I will be HIGHLY PISSED if none of them make the short list.

2. I would love to see people vote and EXPLAIN their conclusions.

personally I do NOT want Kerry to be tapped for SoS, because I believe we NEED him in the senate leading investigations into Bush2, as he uncovered so much government corruption of Bush1 and his cronies - corruption that was WORLDWIDE and that helped lead to the global financial crisis, the growth of global terrorism and 9-11, and invasion of Iraq.

In fact, I'd like to see what DUers believe about who as SoS would be most knowledgeable about Global terrorism, global financial crisis, global water and environmental issues, as well as the familiarity with the future hotspots in Pakistan, Iran and Syria.

4. Probably won't happen because most of America has been dumbed down too much.
media rules.....even here at DU, unfortunately.

5. Wes Clark
I really do think he is extremely qualified. His experience in NATO has given him both diplomatic and national security credentials that would be hard to beat.

16. He was also known as the head of the Dept of Energy
during the time when Wen Ho Lee was falsely accused - and he did nothing to help him.

7. Susan Rice.
Why people want to pull Senators out and replace them with freshman, boggles the mind.

13. I don't get it either.
Aside from being his primary foreign policy adviser, she used to be Assistant Sect'y of state for African Affairs and was on the National Security Council. She was amazing - quite articulate and knowledgeable, whenever I saw her appear on the various news shows.

15. Uh oh!!! You said she was 'articulate'. Watch that! Rice should have right of 1st refusal...
and it would be kinda funny the two Rices.

Hillary for AG. It's a better job for her. And it's the R's worst nightmare come true. There are a lot of evil folks that need to be flushed outta DoJ.

9. I have to go with Bill Richardson
Nothing against John Kerry, whom I deeply admire, but I'd like to keep him in the Senate, where his seniority and wisdom could help to advance Obama's policies. Richardson is a very smart man with a depth and breadth of experience that would be invaluable as SoS. He wouldn't run his own show, but would be a forceful and articulate advocate of Obama's chosen strategies and policies. He has shown himself to be a team player. I can't see anyone who is a better fit, overall.

11. I'd like to see Wes Clark as SOS
He's great at diplomacy and like President-Elect Obama has insisted for years that we TALK to them.
