5. Rather defended CBS against
allegations (internet rumors) their Bush AWOL documents were falsified. Here's a good thread.

4. Moderates and liberals now have a place to get news, CBS
The mainstream media has disgraced itself, by repeating the republican talking points.

CBS stands behind their convictions, and they don't have any.
What has happened is their networks were reading the Drudge talking points, not realizing his source was Cybercast News Service, a well-know conservative 'news' machine headed by L. Brent Bozell III, who also serves as the head of the Conservative Victory Committee.

CNN, FOX, ABC, NBCs reputation,is now tainted.

They are trying for 40% of the Fox viewer pie, and what they have effectively done, is drive the 60% moderates, and liberals to CBS.

They will lose viewers

the BIG THREE. C-Span is the most balanced.

Please send an email of thanks to CBS!

Faux News. I'll give you an example: Yesterday morning, Katie Couric conducted an interview with James Carville & a Republican campaign strategist (can't remember his name). For each of her diatribe-like "questions" directed to Carville, Couric inserted as many Republican talking points as possible. The tone of these particular "questions" was doom & gloom in regard to Kerry's campaign. Thankfully, James Carville is a pro & he managed to use Couric's last question as a plus for Kerry. He said, "If you're happy with the way things are going in Iraq, the economy, etc., then vote for (the coWard -- my term). If you think we can do better, vote for Kerry." :)

31. You are absolutely right . . .
Here are some of Couric's questions:

"All right, let--let me begin with you, if I could, Tucker. Last night, as you know, "60 Minutes II" reported that newly unearthed military records show the president was suspended from flying for the Texas Air National Guard because he failed to perform standards and failed to take his annual flight physical as required. After the broadcast the White House officially released these documents. But the White House had already said in February it had released all records of the president's service. Do you think the president was honest with the American people when he said he had fulfilled his duties as required?"

. . .

"Before I get back to--to Tucker, the Republican convention was, by all accounts--and even you would concede--very successful...for President Bush. Many polls showed him 11 points ahead of John Kerry. (THEY DID? SINCE WHEN IS ONE POLL "MANY?") You, yourself, have said John Kerry had a bad August."

. . .

"Actually, let me ask--the perception is--fairly or unfairly, James is that--that John Kerry is a bit all over the map when it comes to Iraq and some of the statements he's made in the past. Why is he having such a hard time, at least in the minds of the public, stating his position simply?"

. . .
"Tucker, let me ask you about Dick Cheney's remark...where he said if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again, that we'll be "hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States." Many people thought that that really did cross the line, that that went from who is better able to protect the United States, who's better able to fight the war on terror, to scare tactics that were just completely unfair. Do you defend what--what Vice President Cheney said?"

. . .
"In closing, James--we only have a few seconds left. But it seems to me the Republicans have been extremely effective in saying, 'You know, let's not change course midstream. These are scary, dangerous times. You need somebody who's resolute, steady and strong. And we're better able to fight the war on terror.' Whether you agree with that or not, they seem to have convinced many people of that. How do you counter that? How do you say to Americans, 'John Kerry will keep us safe'"?

Seeing the questions in print is even more enfuriating. This show is no better than Faux News, except Couric&Co are more slick.

"Did you watch Dan Rather on the CBS Evening News tonight? Now, THAT'S what a REAL journalist looks like! Choose now, Tweety, do you want to be known as a talking-head-personality, or a true journalist? Dan Rather is the one who plays Hardball!"

Can yall send some emails too....watch his EGO deflate a little?

32.  Yeah-I was all revved up, figureing hairball would
be coming out with both guns blazing, eager to pile on a bit, since Rather had broken trail for him. Imagine my surprise with the opening scene. The moving, rotating camera, dimly lit scene with one bright semi-spot glowing down on four people, sitting around a table; dirge-like music playing and tweety/hairball starting to speak in his preacher Jones voice, monotonic, fixed cadence, utterly unlike his usual spitting, stuttering self. He starts intoning hisw opening prayer for his 911 tribute and I'm double O'ed going WTF? Checked the schedule and saw it was a prerecorded show and hairball was sitting somewhere with a highball in his hand and his feet up. Yuck! Switched over to Lehrer and stayed on DU.

I am picking myself off of the floor.
It has been at least 5 yrs. that I have heard a real journalist reporting a real story. Just giving the facts mam, just the facts!

Oh My God!!!

Is it Dan Rather that owns a ranch next to Dick Cheney?

36. Mr. Rather is The MAN.
I wrote CBS this morning and Thank Them for letting Mr. Rather loose and for doing what he is best at. Telling it like it is. I also told them that I remember watching the news as a kid back in late 60's and early 70's and seeing Mr. Rather standing in the middle of a rice field and reporting the news about Vietnam. He and the guys and ladies of 60min. and 60 min's 2 are the best.
