Obama already making an impact
Obama sends strong signals from the sidelines
By Peter Wallsten, LA times
November 23, 2008

Reporting from Washington -- With a series of forceful actions in recent days, amid an almost unprecedented set of challenges, Barack Obama has taken an unusual step for a president-elect: attempting to alter the country's perilous course even before he takes office. The most dramatic example came Saturday, when Obama announced a far more aggressive economic stimulus plan than previously promised -- a two-year program to add 2.5 million jobs that he said represented "an early down payment on the type of reform my administration will bring to Washington."

==================

This is very good news. Many were hoping he would start doing something like this. I know Obama has said there is only one POTUS at a time but clearly Bush has checked out and there is a leadership vacuum at the top. I think Obama should do even more of this and I suspect Bush would in fact be relieved if he did.

1. A much needed impact!
It is time for a strong leader, one that will take a firm hand on the tiller to steer a new course for the nation.

For too many years we have seen stubbornness masquerade as strength. No more!

2. It is so weird to feel hopeful and positive about the future of this country.
Bush has conditioned us for negativity and failure but now Obama will begin to change all that.

4. I really wonder what B*sh and his ilk think about Obama making strides to fix their mess
if he genuinely wishes him well for the sake of our country, even as he appears "checked out" as you said, or if they're trying to just protect their arses from impending criminal action and destroying everything they can that implicates them...

5. I wonder too. Bush looks defeated and depressed to me.

I think he blames himself for GOP's woes, which he should. But, I think you are right that he and his gang are worried about future hearings and impending legal action against them for abuse of power. Obama and the Democrats should show no mercy.

6. Bush always said that history
would look favorably on his Presidency.

He may have a point, if historians give him credit for killing off the GOP!

8. yep, agreed. NONE! I don't care how sad he makes himself look & he's good at it, mind you, & Obama,
if told that there's clear evidence of their dirty dealings hopefully will not let them get away with the horrible crap they've done (outing Plame, false war, 9/11 perhaps?, warrantless wiretapping, torture details, just to name a few).

It's been such a HORRIBLE eight flippin years that it's as if we all try to forget the mass injustice, well, at least I try, but I keep remembering all the crap Lil Boots has done from his executive branch of the gov't, and I cringe... So proud of people like Kucinich, Dodd, Leahy, Boxer, Kerry and others...

12. Narcissists NEVER blame themselves for anything. Don't kid yourself. If he's depressed
it's because others got in his way and prevented his success.

11. I think Obama is wise enough to realize that he needs to prime the pump with optimism
before he even gets properly started. Otherwise things end with a whimper as * leaves and we're sitting in limbo for two months, anxious because we haven't heard jack about what the next guy really has in mind.

It's great for Obama to start announcing his plans ASAP, because they give people MORE hope and something to cling to as they try to survive this difficult period between the election and him taking office. Otherwise they have to weather the pains of the start of winter and the pressured-to-buy-buy-buy holiday season not knowing where things are even headed.

13. Plus, by doing this before he takes office,
he can insert provisions like "...as long as you stuff your codpiece with four cans of ravioli."

14. Yeah, sure
You say that now. But Obama's obviously not listening to the minority
leftist-disgruntled-progressively-complaining fringe. If he did things would be a whole lot better in a NY minute.

You cut him too much slack. Only by cutting him will he do what we want. It's how we treat our pets, and Obama is like our pet, eh?

< sarcastic? did you really have to ask?>
