IF IF IF John Brennan is the pick for CIA Director, DU will stand and fight it right?
Here's a fun link that confirms that Brennan is easily leading right now and could be named soon after Thanksgiving:
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iWr1qtk3sj1IBP2y_6lfafYPaIwQD94LJK6O1

Here's a great article by Andrew Sullivan about just how nauseatingly evil a person Brennan is:
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/11/obama-picks-a-b.html

I know some have been ducking around this issue not believing it to be true, but what if it is? If he's the choice, will DU stand and fight and remain a relevant site or will it be officially taken over by the Obama cheerleaders?

3. I think the odds are greater than 50/50 that he'll be chosen
And I think the odds are greater than 50/50 that DU will only be evenly split on his nomination, whereas if Bush was appointing him, we would be 100% against him.

Just my opinion.

*readies the flame suit*

Probably so, since I doubt 10% of us have ever heard of him... I will read up, however.

4. I don't know, maybe by calling Congress and asking your senators to oppose him?
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 07:24 PM by Seen the light
That's how it's done, no?

5. What does that have to do with DU as a collective?
It's an individual choice whether or not people decide to do that.
I guess you meant using DU to coordinate efforts.
Well, people should if they feel strongly about it.

7. It'll be a real "are we going the way of FR" check. That's for sure.
This guy is everything that has been wrong with our intelligence establishment over the last 8 years.

If there are DUers who are going to play the whole "Well, Obama did a great job running for president so we should just trust him" on this one it's gonna get awful bloody in these parts.

9. The "fun link" not only spells Obama's first name wrong ("Barrack") but it also says
"Blair is seen as a more likely successor to McConnell as DNI."

10. Let me play Jeanne Dixon for a moment: A few people on DU will speak out
against this appointment, but they will quickly be shouted down by a mob (mostly consisting of people with 2008 join dates) gathering 'round them and screaming things like "Thanks for your concern" and "Yeah, I can tell you're real concerned" and "Would you rather have McCain in the White House?"

11. I'll save my outrage for the actual pick
Brennan would not be a good choice IMO, though I cannot think of anyone else of the top of my head.

Who do you think would be a good pick for the CIA?

and I think he would make a lot of sense.

comes forward that negates what we have already read.

16. Well I posted a thread about it last week
Got about 10 replies. No one interested in knowing. Even though you would think a Cheney man that Obama appoints that fixes intel and is okay with torture would be a problem. That that might stir the fluff from your ears.

But the main job of at least half the people who post here is to defend everything their man does. And I mean everything. How ironic that the critical ones are being called Freepers.

As far as fighting-yes we can contact our congress critters. We can write e-mails. We can complain to each other and try to make some see that Obama is not who we thought he was. But the real problem is who the hell Obama actually IS. And I'm not sure anymore. I will never defend anyone that defends torture.

17. This is just kind of a feeler thread right now
I was hoping that DU would be so outraged and so would the rest of the netroots that it would be a controversy big enough to reach Obama's ears. That obviously hasn't happened, so I'm afraid we might have to kill this after he's put up for confirmation when it would have been much easier to nip it in the bud now.

18. Brennan was arguing for a full public debate in the 2nd piece
I think you and the author of that article have have misunderstood what he believes in on the issue of torture. Secondly, it is highly doubtful that Obama would use him as a resource or appoint him if Brennan was as you paint him.

21. The issue with the CIA is that you can't bring in an outsider to run it....
Edited on Tue Nov-25-08 12:55 AM by RollWithIt
There is absolutely no way you bring in someone to the CIA without 20 years of experience dealing with the Agency. I trust Obama's judgement, particularly on this one. Whoever he picks will have sat in front of him and agreed to his agenda.

22. I know nothing about him..
or the others that are being considered according to that article. So I won't be jumping on either side of the DU bandwagon. I would think that any career spook would be dirty.
