Malia tells her father she will do her reports in the Lincoln Bedroom
because she hopes it will inspire her.

A cute story Obama told about his daughter to Barbara Walters:

1. That's pretty deep for an 11 year old.
Is she her father's daughter or what? "I'm going to sit at that desk because I'm thinking that will inspire some big thoughts."

8. At least one person there had the decency to demand people not talk negatively about Malia
she is just 11 years old after all. The rest made me sick..."that brat"...if anything the Bush girls were brats. Malia and Sasha seem so mature and well behaved and they are just kids.

... is anyone using it? :silly:

13. They "suffered" under Clinton? Did the idiots
short the market during booming economic times?

It's amazing to see how they complain about the new First Family. They are so jealous.

14. Wow. They are convinced that the girls will "run around wild". Have
they ever seen how well behaved Malia and Sasha actually are?

I think it's wonderful that Malia has a sense of the great historic importance of her new home. And she can use any desk she wants.

9. Some pics

Before the construction of the West Wing in 1902, this room was used as either an office or a meeting room for the president's Cabinet. When the president's staff was moved to the new West Wing, this room became a bedroom suite called the "Blue Bedroom." When the White House was gutted and rebuilt during the Truman administration, this room was rebuilt and dedicated to Abraham Lincoln.

The room has been redecorated several times in the past half century, most notably by Jackie Kennedy, but always including furnishings from the Victorian period.

When Abraham Lincoln was president, it was used as his personal office and Cabinet room (it was used in this manner by all presidents between 1830 and 1902). During the Lincoln presidency, the walls were covered with Civil War maps. It had dark green wallpaper, and the carpeting was also dark green. Newspapers were stacked on the desk and tables along with large amounts of mail and requests from office seekers. Two large wicker wastebaskets were filled with debris.

President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in this room on January 1, 1863.

12. It's too fancy for my taste, but I LOVE the coffee table.
Of course even if I could afford a table that looked like that, it would stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of my furniture.

It will be very good to have children back in the White House.

17. The shade of Lincoln will be an unfair advantage for Malia
when he helps her with her history homework. I think Abe will be more than pleased to provide the assistance.

20. I'm sure Abe would not be offended at all--he had kids himself.
Tad Lincoln was supposed to have been quite the little scamp.

I read a nice story about Lincoln recently. There was a fire in the White House stable that flared up too fast to save the horses. President Lincoln had to be physically restrained by his body guards to stop him from rushing in to the burning building to rescue his son Tad's pony.

Imagine that, a president who loves kids and animals.

21. Did they change it?
I didn't see anything like that in the link. Just Barbara Walters being interviewed and Barack and Michelle. they referred to the kids, but the kids were not in it.
