Progressive Conservative Centrist Socialist Capitalist Libertarian Quiz...
I don't put much stock in online quizzes, but I thought this one was kind of interesting. Not that many questions to answer and I thought the results at the end were well thought out and not as generic as most online quizzes.

Also at the end, no need to enter an email address, just hit submit.

The Quiz

The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

Conservative/Progressive score: 10
You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 11
You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 6
You're a Moderate. You think that we all have certain inalienable rights that must be protected, but that sometimes laws need to be made to protect the majority's lives or quality of lives. You might think that the 2nd amendment isn't necessary anymore because letting everyone a gun is extremely dangerous to the community. You might also be against illegal drug use or public pornography because of its possible harmful effects to society.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 3
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Hardcore Democrat

Currently, after 23678 submissions, the average Conservative/Progressive score is 6.03, the average Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score is 6.9, the average Libertarian/Authoritarian score is 5.56, and the average Pacifist/Militarist score is 4.47

I came out as a 10 10 0 3 - also hardcore Democrat.

Looks like the scales are 0 to 12.

The first 10 would make me then 85% progressive - which is I'm sure a bit of a surprise. I know DU is not representative even of progressives let alone Democrats or the population, but I would have thought I'd have been closer to the center here - maybe a 6 or 7.

The second 10 would make me 85% social capitalist as opposed to pure capitalist in that I think capitalism should be regulated to avoid harm rather than left alone. Thst's maybe a bit of a surprise (not a surprise that i want to regulate capitalism, just a surprise the indication is I would want to regulate it THAT much). Again a 7 or 8 perhaps

The 0 would make me completely Libertarian as opposed to authoritarian. That is fine in the narrow context of the quiz's questions since they asked about guns, abortions, gay rights etc,, but to me extrapolates too much even within the confines of that definition of libertarianism. I am for example very much for non-smoking laws and public accommodations for all, which would not fit in this scale if asked.

The 3 to me is the only one that matches where I would put myself. It's not a pure pacifist but someone who would reserve national war for self defense only. That's about right.

It's not a useless quiz by any means and on broad bases would seem to do apretty good job, but I think if you added more questions about different kinds of government "interference" in rights, and more details on economic philosophy, it would be more discriminating.

4. Another "Hardcore Democrat"...
...and it also fits with my self-characterization as a "left-libertarian":

"The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

Conservative/Progressive score: 9

The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 2
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 2

Not every statement is right, but overall it's close enough.

9. I'm labeled as a hard core Democrat

So I guess I'm a Progressive, Social-Capitalist, Libertarian, Pacifist.

Although I think that I'd argue with the label of Pacifist. I don't think that spending less on the Military means I don't think it's unnecessary. I just think we spend way too much on it. (Considering that we spend more than all the other countries combined that's not really much of a stretch.)

I also wonder about what they think a regular Democrat is since I find it hard to call myself a hard core Democrat based on what we've had running things in the Democratic party.

It is amusing though.

10. Democrat 6 8 3 8
That puts me with Clinton, JFK and Carter. I'll take that.

Conservative/Progressive score: 6
You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 8
You are a Moderate Capitalist. You support an economy that is by and large a free market, but has public programs to help people who can't help themselves or need a little help. Pretty much you believe in the American economy how it currently is.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 3
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 8
You're a Moderate. You think that in very rare occasions, the United States should invade a country in order to make the world better by spreading democracy or ending a tyrants rule. You also think that defense is very important, and we shouldn't lower the defense budget. You think that, while the Iraq War probably was a mistake, that we can make the world a better place by sticking with it and spreading democracy in the middle east.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Democrat

"Hardcore Democrat"

I had a problem will a few of the military/war related questions. I didn't think the simple yes or no choice really worked.

Ie: "Is the United States spending too much money on defense?"

It depends. Is that money going to Blackwater or veterans benefits?

"Does the US have a right to stop countries we do not trust from getting weapons?"

Is that only by force or can it be diplomatically?

Overall pretty quick quiz.

The war even if UN says no one, the Affirmative Action one, and the prevent certain countries from getting nukes ones. In almost no cases would I support military force if the UN says no, but there's the chance of a corrupt UN. I think some form of AA is needed, but how much is the question. And I don't want any countries having nukes.

39. Well, that's where the UN comes in.
The whole ex-Yugoslavian clusterfuck, for example. Milosonofabitch clearly had genocidal intentions. It was a UN mission to stop him. Granted, the US played a big part in it. Maybe bigger than they should have, but let's not get off track.

Something like that probably deserves international attention. But there needs to be actual evidence of such a thing, and not just paranoid rhetorical games like some would have us buy into regarding Iran, for example.

I'm a little surprised! I was sure I'd be right down the middle on everything. :)

Conservative/Progressive score: 8
You are a social moderate.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 9
You're a Social Capitalist

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 5
You're a Moderate.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 3
You're a Pacifist.

I've never considered myself a pacifist before so I thought that was interesting.

Hardcore Democrat.

I'm very strongly libertarian and pacifist, as the score shows, on the far end of what this test allows "hardcore Democrats" to be. I believe a free market is the least bad economic theory, but left unhindered, it screws people over. And I'm very progressive.

Very interesting quiz.

46. Democrat
Conservative/Progressive score: 7
You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 10
You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 1
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Democrat

I disagree with this part:

"You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country."

I do consider myself a citizen of the world but I consider myself an American first. We are all citizens of the world duh. Its like saying I consider myself human.

The Quiz

The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

Conservative/Progressive score: 12
You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 12
You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 0
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

70. One of the questions was a how long has it been since you beat your wife questions..
i.e. the do you think the United States should only attack another nation if it believes there is an imminent threat of attack? question give NO option to say "not even then".

The U.S. should be "attacking" anyone BEFORE they attacked us - but not given an option to say this.

Social Progressive
If you had a score that was from 9 to 12, You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country.

Social Capitalist
You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Libertarian
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Foreign Policy Moderate
You're a Moderate. You think that in very rare occasions, the United States should invade a country in order to make the world better by spreading democracy or ending a tyrants rule. You also think that defense is very important, and we shouldn't lower the defense budget. You think that, while the Iraq War probably was a mistake, that we can make the world a better place by sticking with it and spreading democracy in the middle east.

Looks like I'm on the Hawkish end of the DU Foreign Policy Spectrum. No wonder I get bashed for supporting Obama on Afganistan...
