Doonesbury Obama-symbol prediction thread -- get your bet on the record
There has been some speculation in other threads on how G.B. Trudeau will depict the President-Elect.

My guess is a halo.

Bet-hedging alternatives: some kind of coins or medallions (i.e., "change"), a symbol of rhetoric (a megaphone or a doric column), or hope (a wishing well, a falling star?)?

What's your guess?

A secondary question, will Trudeau perhaps keep Obama in the shadows for a while until he chooses a defining narrative, or will he come out with one out of the gate?

1. I go with the defining narative angle
Or, perhaps he'll go with an "O"

Damn, I can't recall how he did Clinton?

3. I believe Trudeau took awhile before defining Bush, so why not wait?
As to the first question, my bet would be on... Ok, no clue here. I wouldn't even want to go there.

It might end up being this:

(Please, no Jeff Gannon jokes -- I mean a pic of him getting Luckys, not getting lucky).

7. Nah. W came pre-made.
Poppy was invisible, with only a tiny spark as his icon (and got that around the Iran-Contra investigations, I think) W was the same thing with a cowboy hat, from the moment he showed up. The spark become an asterisk after the recount, and the cowboy hat became a Roman helmet after the invasion of Iraq.

He did take a while to define Clinton, IIRC. I'm sure he'll wait until Obama shows some comedic tendencies of some sort.

5. an ice cube? (because he is "chill")
I don't know what would symbolize "cool" (rather than cold) and still be recognizable.

14. This gets my vote, "tall, cool, drink of water".
My wife referred to the tall, lean, handsome teanage teammate of our son as a "tall, cool, drink of water".

15. He'll actually make him a person, or won't show him at all (other than legs, or the top of his
head behind a chair, or whatever). The icons are meant to mock. There's not much to mock about Obama.

The whole point of depicting Bush and others by symbols was to indicate their sheer shallowness. There's little point in going there with Obama, at least for now.

18. Turdeau wasn't really mocking Bill Clinton by making him a waffle
He was just a person who likes waffles.

We actually got to VOTE on WJC's avatar - we got to choose among a waffle, a coin(for flipping), and (I think) a triangle, for his famous triangulation.
