Blagojevich is Toast! However, Those Who Had No Choice But To Deal With Him Are In Jeopardy... |
|
A corrupt Governor can surely be brought down by wiretaps, undercover informants, documentary evidence, etc.
However, many people with legitimate interests that require the assistance of the Governor and/or his Administration are now placed in serious jeopardy --not because they proposed anything illegal, but because every conceivable request for assistance from the Governor may have been met with efforts to 'shake them down' for support, money, and anything else of value that could be obtained in exchange for exercising the Governor's powers.
And as anyone knows who has worked with Government Officials wielding tremendous power and authority over private projects, you have to work extremely hard to make every contact clear and above board so there is no misunderstanding as to the motives behind benign acts that could be interpreted otherwise.
I predict that there are going to be a lot of 'innocent' individuals caught up in this investigation who will have to defend themselves from charges that they were acting corruptly simply because they contacted the Governor's Office for help in some manner.
And as for those who had no illegal intent, but who bowed to the demands of the Blagojevich corruption practices, there will be hell to pay.
Ethical conduct is not always an easy call, especially when the line you must always not step over is blurred.

6. I'd be surprised if the Obama People did not see all this coming ... |
|
... and that they took protective measures early on to avoid guilt by association with such a corrupt individual.

9. Unfortunately, they're still stuck with guilt by association, since a Senator |
|
and now President-elect can't avoid some contact with the Governor. (And the Rethugs will exploit this.) But at least they were careful not to leave even a whiff of possibility that they might go along with the Governor's schemes.

Governor Said Of Obama " Them"
Karma is a bitch, particularly when the Illinois Governor also was rready to Obama the finger. I bet Obama wanted Valerie to be appointed the Illinois Senate. Here's the Governor's response.

The charges also state that in a conversation with Harris on November 11, Blagojevich said he knew that President-elect Obama wanted a specific candidate for the open Senate seat but added "they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation. them."
