OMG! THE NANNY (Fran Dresher) wants Clinton's NY Senate seat!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081209/ap_on_re_us/ny_senate_drescher

ALBANY, N.Y. – The star of "The Nanny" wants to go from playing nasally New Yawkers to succeeding Hillary Rodham Clinton in the U.S. Senate.

Publicist Jordan Brown delivered the straight line that Fran Drescher is serious about becoming the next junior senator from New York. Brown cited Drescher's experience as an actress, advocate for women's health and public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department.

The 51-year-old "Saturday Night Fever" and "This is Spinal Tap" actress joins a field headed by Caroline Kennedy and New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. New York Gov. David Paterson will appoint Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's successor if she is confirmed secretary of state in the Obama administration.

LOL!!!!!!!!

I'll bet Caroline Kennedy is looking pretty good right about now...

And for those of you that hated Hillary's voice, she's gonna sound like a sweet symphony compared to Dresher.

I'm 14 miles NW of central London. :)

I only only googled her because her name was new to me. I concluded she was intelligent and looked pretty good for 51 year old.

In actual fact having seen a documentary on the Clintons some years ago I'd concluded what without HR he wouldn't have very far. So - I'm pleased for HRC now. Just hope she doesn't disappoint all of us.

32. You've never seen her sitcom in Britain?
She's a comedian and is known for having a voice like the honk of a goose. I actually used to enjoy her show when it was on years ago. She does look great for her age, but I'm not sure that she's ready to be senator yet.

It looks like I'm going to have to track you down via satellite since you're on the other side of the pond.

Greetings from New Jersey.

:hi:

33. I'm not sure her Sitcom is on here.
I've got a hundred or so channels on both cable and satellite and it could just be that it's on a channel with which I've never bothered - I'll have a root around. The only sitcom I watch is 2 1/2 Men and that's only because I like Charlie's shirts......lol. I also hadn't realised she was in Spinal Tap which I haven't watched for years - I've asked my daughter to bring her DVD down to the house this weekend and I'll check that out.

I found a few clips of her on Youtube. I'm a real sucker for American accents and her's is totally wild. I see what you all mean about her laugh too.

Yes - greetings from the UK where it cold and miserable at present. Hopefully dancing tonight will warm me up.

:hi:

She's a comedian, you know. The "make fun" thing is technically part of the job.

If you saw her on the t.v machine before the primaries while she was cheerleading for Hillary you would probably rethink that. She is a total idiot! Larry King looked embarrassed for her.

16. Actually Drescher is State Department public envoy
Fran Drescher, is an actress, women's health advocate and public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department.

Since a bout with uterine cancer, she has become an activist for better health care for women and was named a State Department public envoy on the issue in September. Drescher recently toured Eastern European countries to raise awareness of the issue on behalf of the State Department.

I know her voice might put some people off, it is kind of funny, but by the same token, as much as I like Caroline Kennedy, she also can be annoying with the monotone cadence of her speech which can be awfully boring.

Either way, its going to be fun with all the different personalities trying to get into the mix. I don't envy Governor Paterson, just hope his pick does the best job they can for NY, because we have our own economic problems here.

24. There is more to governing..............
than PUBLIC HEALTH! In fact the emphasis on health in our society, is unhealthy! Unbalanced.
How about Renee Fleming for Governor??
If the general public was more self actualized, and the environment was cleaned up, poor health would be less of an issue!
As it is; the only reliable jobs left are in the medical field............if your skill sets don't match that field, tough poopies, go apply to MacDonalds and give the nurse jane fuzzy wuzzies more patients.

25. Fran is not chopped liver, kids
She is a very intelligent and skilled person. Highly accomplished in her own field and in others. I understand the right wing has taught many to mock creative people and especially women when they go into politics, but I see here much outright judgment based on her sit com work. Cute, and probably feels hip and ironic and all of that Michael Richards sort of 'funny', but I'd bet a pound of schmaltz that not one of the Fran knockers here knows a thing about her that they have not gathered up from tabloids.
I've met her. I've talked with her. I'd vote for her in a second. She's an actual Democrat, a person with high ethics, and she can make people laugh. She does not hold dogmatic bigotries toward others, either.
