A curious analysis on the failed bailout vote...
Yeas - 52
Nays - 35
NV - 12

Breaking it down by party:
Yeas - 52
D - 42
R - 8
I - 2

Nays - 35
D - 4
R - 31

NV - 12
D - 4
R - 8

- - - - -

Note: There is also one vacancy, Obama's former seat.

You know, this thing possibly could have passed if everyone was present!

1. Only if 4 absent Rs had come in and voted Yea.
Not too likely.

3. I bet at least 2 of the 3 Dems who voted no (not counting Reid) would have voted yes
if their votes would have made the difference. It's pretty common for a lot of senators to vote the more popular way when it becomes clear their votes won't matter.

4. Not 4, only 2
52

Flip Reid since he voted Nay for procedural reasons.
Add Obama's old spot (Thank you Blag you fucking asshole)
Add all four Dems not present...

And we're up to 58.

We'd need only 2 more Repukes to pass it. And 8 missed the vote.

2. That's what's killing me
Anyone know why Wyden was not there? All the other absent Dems are accounted for.

I bet Obama wishes he hadn't resigned his Senate seat yet...of course, he thought it would enable the governor to quickly appoint a replacement who would have time to be a senator while he was busy with transition. How was he supposed to know that Blagojevich was instead going to try to sell his senate seat and as a result leave it vacant possibly for months?
