PHOTO Aw, Joe Biden's puppy
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 09:10 PM by Jackeens_for_Obama
Isn't he cute? And the puppy's lovely too :-)

This undated photo provided by breeder Linda Brown shows Vice President-elect Joe Biden of Delaware holding his newly purchased German Shepard puppy, which remains name-less so far, at Brown's home in East Coventry Township in Chester County, Pa.

5. Wonderful, good, great - but I'm still disappointed that he did not go to a rescue group...
There are rescue groups for ALL purebreds that exist - and these dogs need homes BECAUSE OF THE BREEDERS!

Nice he found a puppy for his family - BUT PEOPLE, PLEASE DON'T PATRONIZE BREEDERS!

Go to the rescue groups or the local pound!!!

25. It's a relevant question.
He had a chance to give rescue groups and shelters some visibility, he chose to buy a purebred from a breeder.

33. I agree - it is kinda disappointing. I think people just don't get it.
Until you experience the wonderful feeling you get adopting a shelter or a rescue dog, you have no idea what you are missing in your life.

To me, the most sickening place of all is the pet shops at the mall.
I just want to go in and set all those dogs free.

37. Please? Joe and Jill Biden did purchase this pup from a "reputable breeder" not a "puppy mill" ...
I also give them perks for hiring this breeder to select a trainer to make sure the puppy is well socialized and grows up to be a "Good Canine Citizen."

Hey, I loved Bill Clinton's dog "Buddy" but he was in dire need of training and proper socialization ... make that INTENSE training as he had learned a lot of bad habits.

Especially big dogs need to be properly socialized and trained in order to ensure they behave their masters.

Although IMNSHO, the best temperament dogs, on average, come from the "lovable mixed mutt" variety, I applaud Joe and Jill Biden for following through with "responsible dog ownership." After all, the real work occurs after the purchase/adoption: Far too many owners drop the ball in this area.

not good. that kind of temperment can produce fear biters. even if obedience trained.

he would have done better to pick the outgoing, curious puppy.

I bow to your mystical powers!

Seriously though, I've had german shepherd pups before and they ALL make that soulful look. Has nothing to do with them being "nervous" or "afraid". :eyes:

the only thing that bothers me about this is he didn't adopt a rescue dog.

Jill would post pics of puppies while Joe was traveling for the campaign to keep him motivated.

I think it's really great how both Obama and Biden are animal lovers.

38. That "breeder" is a puppy mill - He needs to cancel the purchase NOW.
That "Breeder" has a horrific set up, according to animal activists - From an email sent to the rescue I work with:

<<Dear Companion Pet Lovers ~

Please read this important announcement from BanOhioDogAuctions. com supporter and animal activist, Jana Kohl. This is heartbreaking to say the least, and here is what Jana shared earlier this AM:

I just received a description of the breeder/puppy mill that the Bidens bought their dog from. This first-hand account comes from a respected anti-puppy mill activist who has investigated countless mills. I also just learned that the Philadelphia Inquirer is already at work on the Biden story, written by a reporter who has exposed PA's horrific puppy mill problem -- one of the worst in the nation, along with Missouri, Ohio, and all the others. I've received emails tonight from scores of people who have already heard the news and are stunned....people who know that Barack participated in Baby's book and our project, and can't imagine how or why the Bidens didn't choose to adopt. Below is the description of the breeder the Bidens bought from, in his words.....

"When I was there, she had dogs living outside in igloos and a large side building wrapped in blue plastic... the barking was deafening... . her inspection report states approximately 100 breeding dogs... she sold more than 275 dogs in 2006.....it was a stupid move on Biden's part... a puppy mill, for sure."

41. I did some research on this -
She was. 2006. She was hit with a fine.

Hopefully those days are over, and she is nothing more than a breeder at this time.

Joe went there on a referral, I believe from Tobin.

47. She was recently cited for her filthy kennels
It was 2006 when she got suspended by the AKC for a year, which is damn near impossible to do, so you know it's a fucked up "breeder."

She's a puppy mill. No legitimate breeder sells over 275 puppies in a year.
