C'mon gays, women, and atheists, pony up! |
|
There have been several posts calling Obama's embrace of Rick Warren brilliant, saying that it will enable him to disarm the opposition and lead us to the progressive promised land.
If you're gay, female, and/or and atheist (or some other godawful single-issue whiner), please suggest other things Obama can do to insult and marginalize you to further strengthen his hand. It's for the good of the country and the party, so don't be shy.

STILL, Obama was the best hope for our country, amongst the choices we had.

Bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire. The United Methodists are seriously split on the issue of gay ordination. The United Church of Christ have had openly gay and lesbian ministers since the 1970s. Incidentally, I am agnostic and I think your actual point is well taken, but there are movements toward sanity.

in the name of unity and wanting to move forward instead of looking back. As he always says, "We can agree to disagree without being disagreeable." I can't think of anything more disagreeable and rude than immediately trying to overturn rules that Bush just worked so hard to put in place.

You call acknowledgment of his position as the leader of the fundies an embrace?
That's like saying that if someone puts money in the bank they are embracing the rip-off bankers. That having a mortgage is embracing the rip-off bankers. That driving a foreign car is embracing the foreigners.
Hyperbolic words are deserving of the Fickle Finger of Fate Award. Would you like one?

Appeared at Warren's church multiple times, named him a personal spiritual advisor, cited him in speeches for years, and has chosen him to do the invocation at his inaugural.
I guess that's not an embrace. He's doing a heckuva job distancing himself from him!

13. Warren is NOT leader of the fundies. He is one of the leaders of one particular strain |
|
of fundie, the least appealing kind, IMHO.
But, where is it written that a Falwell/Roberton/Dobson/Kennedy clone had to give the invocation? Or any strain of fundie, appealing or not? Christianity includes many, many views. Where is it written that a PE has to honor the ugliest with an invitation to give the invocation?

when the aliens land, what is the first thing they say? Take us to your leader.
ABC news had a program all about how Warren was the leader of the fundies. Saw the advert, that's all.
Now, when you are elected president, you can do whatever you want, too.

15. Your analogies here are pretty weak, but what the hell, let's use them |
|
That's like saying that if someone puts money in the bank they are embracing the rip-off bankers. So put your money in a credit union.
That having a mortgage is embracing the rip-off bankers. Get a mortgage loan from the credit union. Terms will probably be better anyway.
That driving a foreign car is embracing the foreigners. Well, technically it is. Since the majority of the money you spent on that car is going back to Tokyo. Even if it was assembled in Alabama. Now in the case of car buying, there are other concerns, such as the environment and fuel economy and in those areas GM and Ford may not measure up to Toyota. But you can't make any such analogous claims about Prick Warren. Choosing that homophobic, anti semitic, misogynistic right wing bastard isn't going to do anything "green" for old Mother Earth.

Green for mother earth.
So, driving a car is like embracing the destruction of mother earth? Yes, I agree.
point here is all of us are complicit, and it is an elite position to take that any of us are so pure that we alone can cast stones.
I label the Obama choice like this: he picked the biggest baddest mofo of them all to send a message that he's here to play and play hard. No slinking away from the biggest and baddest, he went right to the top. And, I believe, he's gonna take Warren down a quite a few notches. With our help.
I have a dream that one day fundie power over America is greatly diminished.

Look around DU this weekend. The terms "single-issue" and "whiner" are quite prevalent in putting down those who would like Obama to reconsider the choice of Rick Warren for the invocation and to stop cozying up to bigots like him.

22. Gays, women and atheists are targets of Warren's bigotry |
|
You could add Jews too; in fact, any non-Christians. We're all going to hell, according to him. And women might get to heaven, but they have to shut up and do what they're told by men.
So, that's why those groups are listed in the OP. But the OP is saying that since some people have said, on DU, that Obama's choice of Warren is somehow going to strengthen the respect Warren has for them in the long run, then, by that logic, they can speed it up with further insults of themselves.
And note there's a 'sarcasm' tag at the end.
