Sey Hersh on C-Span Makes a Good Point about Prison Abuse |
Just saw the tail end of a presentation from a few days ago of Hersh speaking in front of some college group. He made an excellent point about the prison scandle.
He talked about the Arab culture and the no-no's regarding the human body, etc. He said that if you are playing tennis with guys in Egypt, you don't go into the locker room and snap towels. Each man has his own private cubicle shower and they don't present themselves naked in front of each other, etc. He said that, of course, if you want to break down an Arab, the things they did in the prison were exactly the way you would do it. BUT, he then pointed out the background of these 'few soldiers' who supposedly thought this up all by themselves. He said these people from West Virginia who used to work in pizza parlors, etc. just would not have known and understood the culture to know this and know what 'things' (which seem like frat jokes)could break these people. These are things that had to be told to them and directed by people much higher up who were educated to that culture and knew how to violate that culture.

1. He made me MAD later on |
said it was a laugh to think John Kerry could turn our allies around to help us, even after saying this administration made enemies of our allies, that they (our allies)do not hate Americans only the policies of this administration. I screamed at the TV How can Bush, who is hated turn things around and John Kerry can't. Where does he stand?

2. Let me fill you in a bit on this |
This was brought up yesterday because he was saying things similar on Meet the Press. BUT, if you noticed in that question and answer period he was not saying at all that Bush could do anything. He said it was a hopeless mess and that we were even going to lose the military base we are building over there, etc. The one thing that I think Hersh and some others miss when they say that it's a joke that Kerry's going to get some of these nations to now come in, is that Kerry isn't talking about just going to their front door and asking them. Kerry is saying that the reason they didn't go in with us is because we cut them out of the contracts but expected them to fight for us. He wants to cancel these all-American contracts and allow these other nations to participate. THAT (just like greedy us) will get some interest. Yes, it makes me mad that Sey and others don't seem to take that into consideration.
