At 10:30 tomorrow, the DNC will unveil a new * ad |
|
focusing on *'s AWOL/60 Minutes documents.
Terry Mac just announced this on Big Ed's radio show.
Soon will follow up with a "Bush Flip Flop" ad.

2. I guess I'll get flamed for saying this is a mistake... |
|
But oh well....I'm all for the 60 minutes piece, and the Kitty Kelly book and getting them as much press on their own as possible, and staying out there for as long as we can keep them out there.. I just think it's a mistake for the DNC to focus on that stuff. The flip flop stuff is great and relevant and should be hit hard. I just think that where Bush succeeds is he goes down denying to the very end that he or his campaign is involved in the mud slinging. And as stupid as it is, people buy it. And I think we should do the same thing. Not from the DNC though. I think if they are focusing on the AWOL issue its a mistake.

3. DNC better be damn sure those documents are legit |
|
Most of us think they are - but they better be sure they're not a Rove plant.

8. At this point, whether they are or not..... |
|
The left believes they are and can point to a bunch of articles/"experts" who say they are and the right believes they are forgeries and can point to articles/"experts" who say they are bogus. And the middle just doesn't give a fuck. So other than firing up the already fired up base, it serves no purpose for the DNC to get involved in that end of things.

5. I'll join you in getting flamed then. |
|
The flipflop is good but I'm not so sure about the AWOL from the DNC. I'll have to see the ad and see if they tie it in to a lack of credibility as president.

I agree. Going back to something that happened 30 years ago when you have plenty of ammo during the four years the chimp's been president is a mistake.
I personally think most undecided voters don't care about what Bush did 30 years ago. They're more concerned with what Bush did during his (p)residency and what will happen in the near future.

12. Why are they getting tangled up in that mess? |
|
It only alienates people who are so confused about what to believe that they will stay home in November. The AWOL issue is better left to Dan Rather and CBS.

15. I agree it may be dangerous, but if they do it the right way |
|
by focusing on the contrast in character between a man who volunteered twice and a man who was afraid to volunteer and walked away from a safe spot in the Guard, it may work.
It's hard to think anything will work on his hard core supporters. I think they're all nuts.

I have been waiting for someone to pin the "flip-flop" tag on Bush in an advertisement... it's just such an OBVIOUS target for us.

6. Why AWOL? Let's hit him with something new instead! Flip flop is good! |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 04:56 PM by Democat
Bush has already responded to that, time to hit him with something new while he is still dealing with the last attack.
We need to pile the attacks on him faster than he can respond, with each attack reinforcing a specific theme that we are trying to tie to Bush. "Bush is a liar" is a great theme, now we need to attack him with scandal after scandal that proves that he is a liar.

7. I think this is really |
|
a waste of money. If we can't beat Bush by focusing on the deficit, health care, outsourcing, rising poverty levels, the disaster in Iraq and the failure in Afghanistan then BUsh's National Guard servie won't be of much use to us.
This is material that should have been dealt with 4 years ago. The fact that Bush is in the WH and people seem to like him and will give him the benefit of the doubt over this stuff will sort of render the issue useless.
Clinton was right to tell Kerry to stop talking about Vietnam. The DNC should take that advice as well.

despite the all of evidence that negative ads like Bush/awol work, some people here still don't get it. Bush needs to be branded as AWOL and a liar- and it needs to be repeated over and over. the same with Cheney- he needs to be branded as the cowardly chickenhawk that he is.
This campaign isn't going to be won by sitting back and talking about issues. TV ads- ones that create controversy- will resonate. They'll drive Bush's negatives back up to where they were in early June.
Issues are fine for the debates (assuming that they can even be raised effectively there). But as we've seen OVER and OVER, airing the issues alone won't win. I don't like it, either- but that's the way it is.

14. No, the negative ads only work when the media... |
|
presents them as "news" and an exploration of the facts (or versions of the facts), and show the ads over and over again just to make sure people know which ads they are talking about, which is what happens when republicans do negative attack ads.
What happens when democrats do negative attack ads is that they aren't shown over and over again on news shows because that would debase the elevated political discourse. And rather than exploring the content of the ads they use the ads as a reason to discuss how desparate the dems are and how they reduce the discourse into the gutter.
Yes, negative ads work but not when done by the left. This sucks and I hate it but to think otherwise is, I fear, living in a dream world.

16. If the awol ad pulls no punches- |
|
and, considering it's the DNC, that a BIG if... then just watch this ad generate controversy and coverage. I'd put money on it (and I'm not a betting man).
