Reid To Coleman: It's Over. Concede.

Reid To Coleman: It's Over. Concede.

By Eric Kleefeld - January 4, 2009, 9:58PM

In a statement given to Election Central, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has called upon Norm Coleman to concede defeat in the Minnesota Senate race. Reid also reminded Coleman of his own calls early on in this process for Franken to concede and not waste taxpayer time and money:

I believe that tomorrow the bipartisan state canvassing board will certify Al Franken the winner. After all, early on Senator Coleman criticized Al Franken for wanting a recount and wasting taxpayer money. I would hope now that it is clear he lost, that Senator Coleman follow his own advice and not subject the people of Minnesota to a costly legal battle.

One major caveat: Even if Reid wants to get Franken seated immediately, there will almost certainly be a filibuster from the GOP against it, while Coleman pursues his expected legal challenges. And the reality is that there isn't really anything Reid can do to force the desired outcome if the Republican caucus stays united.

There is no major caveat. The Republicans are full of shit. They barely have 41 votes in the 111th Congress and are threaten filibusters. Some of the Repubs who are up for re-election in 2010 may actually want to stay clear of being portrayed as obstructionists.

2. Good for Reid. They need to STFU and move out of the way.
I'm hoping you are right and they don't want to be obstructionists but I don't know if they have regular thoughts and feelings like the rest of us.

3. I thought Reid was not to be trusted. . .
. . .seriously last night there were folks on DU projecting hate towards Reid re: the Minnesota recount. I thought he screwed something up.

4. Once the canvassing board certifies the vote totals move to seat him and make them filibuster

5. I believe that would be on the condition that Coleman
conceded the race and both SOS and Governor signed the certification (keep in mind Pawlenty is the governor). Personally, hell ya I'd love to see that happen. Wouldn't it be nice to see Republicans fall flat on their face within the first week of Congress?
