2. Al with Jane Curtin when it started..... he did a 90's one too with his son.
Jane Curtin:

Well, the 1970's are in their final month, and with some thoughts on this decade and the one we're about to enter, here's Weekend Update's Social Sciences Editor Al Franken.

Al Franken:

Thank you, Jane. Well, the "me" decade is almost over, and good riddance, and far as I'm concerned. The 70's were simply 10 years of people thinking of nothing but themselves. No wonder we were unable to get together and solve any of the many serious problems facing our nation. Oh sure, some people did do some positive things in the 70's - like jogging - but always for the wrong reasons, for their own selfish, personal benefit.

Well, I believe the 80's are gonna have to be different. I think that people are going to stop thinking about themselves, and start thinking about me, Al Franken. That's right. I believe we're entering what I like to call the Al Franken Decade. Oh, for me, Al Franken, the 80's will be pretty much the same as the 70's. I'll still be thinking of me, Al Franken. But for you, you'll be thinking more about how things affect me, Al Franken. When you see a news report, you'll be thinking, "I wonder what Al Franken thinks about this thing?", "I wonder how this inflation thing is hurting Al Franken?" And you women will be thinking, "What can I wear that will please Al Franken?", or "What can I not wear?" You know, I know a lot of you out there are thinking, "Why Al Franken?"

Well, because I thought of it, and I'm on TV, so I've already gotten the jump on you. So, I say let's leave behind the fragmented, selfish 70's, and go into the 80's with a unity and purpose. That's what I think. I'm Al Franken. Jane?

Jane Curtin:

Thank you, Al. That's the news. Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

8. Love that skit.
I think you have to hear him say it to really know how funny it is...he has a way with his voice that few comedians can match.

"But for you, you'll be thinking more about how things affect me,...Al Franken." (perfect deadpan...)

4. It is still possible that various legal issues will delay victory
Message from DSCC

Good news from Minnesota: The recount is over, and it is now clear that Al Franken won the Senate election.

The state canvassing board has finished recounting all of the ballots and Franken now holds a lead of 225 votes. The canvassing board is scheduled to certify Franken as the winner today.

It took a little longer than any of us thought it would, but the only reason the DSCC is on the cusp of winning eight seats this cycle is because of all of your hard work and dedication. Thank you so much for everything you've done for victory.

To be clear, it is still possible that various legal issues will delay our victory. But there is no longer any doubt as to the outcome. Even if all the ballots Republican Norm Coleman claims were double counted or erroneously added were resolved in his favor, he still wouldn't have enough votes to win.

Al Franken will be the next senator from Minnesota.

Thank you again for all your amazing support to help us win eight new Senate seats this year. Bringing change to this country will require every one of our 59 Democratic seats.

7. All Coleman can do now is delay the inevitible.
MAthematically, no potential case he can bring could overturn these results.

All he can do is be a petulant child at this point, which I fully expect he will do.

12. The Republicans put Gopher from _The Love Boat_ into the House!
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 11:30 AM by tblue37
They put a B movie actor with Alzheimer's into the WH, a very bad singer and clown (Sonny Bono) into the House, and another bad actor (Fred Thompson) into the Senate--and were desperately hping to put him into the WH, too!

I think they are living in a fragile glass house where this is concerned.
