6. I share your enthusiasm, but
nothing is a lock. I would note judging by the B/C:K/E sign/bumpersticker ratio, and talking to people I come in contact with, it looks very promising.

7. It's bullshit, don't believe the polls
Kerry / Edwards signs are everywhere.

The only large amounts of signs for Chimpy are in Waukesha County, which is going to him anyhow...

We'll take Wisconson again.

9. I call bullshit
That's clearly an outlier. Just like the bogus one with Bush having a 14-point lead in Missouri. Just look at electoral-vote.com, that's not normal.

10. Gore won Wisconsin by 2/10 of one percent
Which was less than his national popular vote margin. State polls lag behind national polls. Many of the new state polls are probably reflecting last week's Bush bounce more than he retains of that.

Still, if Bush is legitimately ahead by 3-5 points nationally, he figures to lead in a bellwether state like Wisconsin, which has been less than 2% away from the national popular vote margin in each of the last three presidential elections.

Kerry needs to win the popular vote. Dependence on plucking individual states is not likely to evict this asshole at 1600.

11. My bet is random polling error.
The accepted way of calculating the .05 level (2-Tailed) is 1.7*MOE, which yields an error range of 8.5%. Calm down, everybody.

18. Oh, please. They probably polled Waukesha and Appleton.
I've posted this twice already.

according to electoral-vote.com
http://www.electoral-vote.com/#news
Kerry 50%
Bush 48%
Nader 0%

(Zogby, Sept. 3)

The surprise to me is Nader!

Electoral Vote: Kerry 269 Bush 233

2000 elections:
Gore 47.8
Bush 47.6
Nader 3.6

Now, please, stop wringing your hands. We're blue. Trust me.

19. Bush may be up
a slight bit in WI (some other polls have him up by 2-3 points), but I doubt it's by 8. After all, they had Bush up by 14 or something ridiculous in MO and 9 in OH. Other polls released soon after showed it to be much closer (Bush up by 2 and 3 respectively in the SUSA poll).

Gallup polls seem to be extremely wild and volatile. Also, while I know Gallup has a reputation as an old polling company that was very close in some elections (they were off in the last one), I have no idea how good their state polls have been.

20. That sounds accurate
Bush by 2-4 points, basically mirroring his apparent national lead, or perhaps a point or so lower in a what is now a slight Democratic leaning state like Wisconsin. Eight points is another phony bloated margin, like Bush has been credited with for about 10 days.

22. I wish I were as optimistic as some of my fellow cheeseheads
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 11:50 PM by WI_DEM
but I've been sensing with the calls I've been making on behalf of the Democratic party that Kerry is not doing as well he should be especially in Western Wisconsin. This is not the first poll to show Kerry behind, he has been behind in other polls in this state, a few have had him up. But of all the blue states, this is the one I fear most switching to Bush. Bush has done a lot of campaigning here as well. Kerry will be in Madison on Wednesday. I think he will get a big turnout.

The bottom line is Kerry has got to start addressing in layman terms why he voted for the Iraqi resolution and what steps he would have taken differently than Bush has. And what his plan is for Iraq--if he is elected.

I think this is not only what Bush must do in Wisconsin but also nationally.

There will be another poll out in Wisconsin tomorrow--the Rasmussen tracking poll and hopefully it will show the state closer.

p.s.
there are alot of people who care more about how the Badgers and Packers are going to do this season than who the next president will be.

http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/10/27/cnntime.poll/

a CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll also released Friday. That poll gives Bush a 52 percent-39 percent edge over Gore.

We all know how that story ended....

IGNORE CNN/GALLOP polls ... Kerry has the mo!
