Kerry should disregard debate rules if still trailing by the 2nd debate
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 09:06 PM by dumpster_baby
I am aware that the debates are highly structured, thus constraining Kerry from really attacking Bush one on one. BUt if Kerry is still trailing by this margin when the 2nd (and final) debate comes around, once on stage, he should just ignore the moderators and just attack Bush, giving him a vicious verbal thrashing. Too much is at stake for the little people in this election for Kerry and the Democrats to play the refined and genteel role.

If Bush walks off stage, Kerry should just razz and jeer him as he leaves. Kerry should even confront Bush aggressively if he tries to leave--"You little Pussy!"

5. bad idea
Ric Lazio lost his senate bid against Hillary when he walked over to her podium and confronted her. It just showed him to be an asshole.

What might be satisfying to you or me is NOT necessarily the best strategy to win votes.

26. It Doesn't Matter...
Hillary was ahead at the time of the debate, but it was within the magin of error. After Lazio pulled that stunt, voters saw him for the juvenile jerk that he is and he got his ass kicked by twelve points.

What you're suggesting is that Kerry play the Lazio role -- and lose anyway. I can see why that suggestion seems to be going over like a lead ballon in this thread...

16. Oh he will, rhetorically speaking
Read the North Korea criticism of his in the NYT. He was so mad about how badly the Bush administration screwed up the N. Korea negotiations that he sought out a reporter on his day off. Angry as hell, speaking in short sentances, right to the point.

I love how articulate Kerry gets when he's angry. We'll be in business if he can hold on to that anger until the debates.

But he's NOT a thug. And such a stance would only boomerang all over him and make him look cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

We want him to look PRESIDENTIAL.

11. The biggest part of "winning" the debates is to have the
media say you won. Their perception and reporting on the outcome is everything. The average viewer won't know unless he is told.

22. And all Bush has to do
according to 2000, is break even.

Kerry has to win decidedly, and not play little theatrical games like rolling his eyes and such.

I do believe he can.

But then I also believe he has the forward momentum to win even now.

The pub folks today tried to tell me that Kerry had pulled out of Missouri, that it was too Bush and no longer a Swing.

I restated my bet. Kerry wins, and by more than 5 percentage points. Landslide. Don't discount the newbies.

I do believe. Project victory, people.

14. But the debates are not really "debates"!
The GOP has been too clever by far for the Dems, at least so far. We need something else. I have no doubt at all that Kerry would leave Bush ready for some serious medication, were they to actually debate. But these debates are simply going to be staged questions from the moderators. Bush will just read from a memorized or written script.

17. How about Kerry and Edwards Double Team him and take him to the mat!
Then Kerry can pick him up, hold him up over his head, spin him around and throw him at Bill O'Reilly!

That I would love to see.

You can't be serious! Average voters would be Totally turned off to Kerry and Bush would coast to a big victory.

23. Hey,
Now CUT that out.

We're not doomed. The ad campaign has only just started. The debates are left.. And for all intents and purposes he's at least where Gore was in 2000. He need only build on that base. And I think he has.

Relax folks, and get out there. DO something for the effort.

It's not time for sackcloth and ashes yet.

:hi: Ain't no way JK loses this one.
I was just demonstrating the kind of "cheerleading" I've been hearing more and more 'round here since the pukes' convention. A few points in the polls and all the fight goes right out of some folks.
