National Portrait Gallery Gets Obama Poster
Shepard Fairey’s ubiquitous illustration of Barack Obama, seen in rallies, parties, shop windows and construction sites throughout the 2008 election season, has found a home. The National Portrait Gallery in Washington announced that it had acquired Mr. Fairey’s work for its collection. The portrait, right, a mixed-media stenciled collage that depicts Mr. Obama above the word “hope,” was created by Mr. Fairey, a Los Angeles artist known for rock-music album covers and a sticker campaign featuring the wrestler Andre the Giant. In a news release Martin E. Sullivan, director of the National Portrait Gallery, said the Obama poster was “an emblem of a significant election, as well as a new presidency.” It is expected to be on display by Inauguration Day.

I love it! That picture symbolizes to so many of us a new beginning after the tragedy of BushCo.

1. The NPG is a recurring favorite for my visits.
Can't wait to see this one up close. That is, if I can even get in it . . . it's going to be crowded.

6. I would love to have one for my computer room...
...considering how many hours I spent on the computer during the primaries and the election ~~ seems very fitting that one of those posters would hang right by my computer. I just love it! :hi:
