Can we now congratulate Senator Burris? |
|
I know that Blago inserted him to cause controversy and cause a circus in the Senate, but it seems that now all the obstacles have been removed and Roland Burris can now take his seat in the state delegation as the Junior Senator from the great state of Illinois. Congratulations Senator Burris. Hopefully we can also congratulate Senator-elect Al Franken in the very near future.

1. First, there is a tradition that goes all the way back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. |
|
The naked wrestling.
He and Al Franken must wrestle each other naked on the floor of The Senate.
And then, we have to flood The House with water so that two boats full of gladiators can fight to the death.

6. Actually he's still missing a signature and the support of the Senate. |
|
Yes, a state court said the signature doesn't matter. But, the Senate is a federal institution.

Congrats to Burris. I am not thrilled about how this went down but hey at least we have that extra vote for the first 100 days, a very important time when we need all the votes we can get. We need Franken there ASAP.

I hope he represents the democratic party and the state of Illinois well and I hope that he does not seek re-election in 2010 out of respect for the people of Illinois :toast:

Congrats to an opportunistic, egotistical asshole like Burris? Why? Because he happens to have an D next to his name? Anyone with an ounce moral fiber would never have accepted an appointment this tainted. But it's party over principle, right?

11. well as much as the entire thing stinks.....he's in there now and he |
|
gets my support. What's the alternative at this point? Hopefully he'll do a good job and vote the way he needs to for the next two years. He's the D that got the appointment. That calls for me to support him and hope he does well.
But hey, that's just how I roll.

13. I Agree That Burris Would not have been my choice or your choice of for that matter anyones choice.. |
|
But The point being now that this media feeding frenzy is over and the country can focus on the real problems going on in America today other than who is gonna fill the seat of a Governor who should have never appointed anyway to it in the first place. Yet should we all refuse and let this media frenzy continue the United States Senate would still go on with their work over the coming months while the people of Illinois and The Democratic party sets in shambles going over the logistics of how we would get Blagojevich and Burris out and reappoint another senator.
And its not party over principle its principle over constitution because whether u like it or not Blagojevich is the Governor and the Constitution says the Governor may appoint anyone to that seat. And as the Supreme Court already ruled the status of the appointee should not be in jeopardy because of the actions of the governor of which he/she was appointed...

that it's best that this not dominated the Senate or the country and that legally Burris should be seated. My attitude is one of grudging acceptance so certainly I don't think we should be congratulating the jerk for getting over.

17. Why? He has been elected in Illinois state wide several times. Burris is fly by night polititian. |
|
He has name recognition and repsect by many in Illinois, and I would think that if he does his job well in the Senate, he will be a shoe-in in 2010.

19. I'm glad he was seated, but I offer no congratulations to this man. |
|
He shouldnt have taken the position, but instead let his hunger for power get in the way of doing what was right. I hope somebody challenges him for the Democratic Primary in 2010 and beats him.
