From Andrew Sullivan's blog (about his meeting with Obama this morning)
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 05:28 PM by Hell_If_I_Know
Sorry, No Details

Lots of emails from readers asking about the chat with the president-elect this morning. It was totally off the record and I'm a stickler for those rules. I can say, however, the following: it's hard to express the relief I feel that this man will be the president soon. I realize that's what I feel above all else: relief.

I may disagree with him at times, and criticize him at times, but his great gift is showing that he does not expect people to change their convictions in order to find common areas of agreement. That's the challenge he's presenting all of us with, wherever we come from ideologically. The challenge is as real for a Krugman as for a Kristol, for Rick Warren as well as Gene Robinson.

As I've said repeatedly for the last two years, we're lucky to have him.

1. I have always said I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I like soothing words. I even
think he's prepared to deliver on some of his promises. I don't think it's unreasonable of the GLBT community to be angry at how they've been treated first under Reagan, then Clinton betrayals with DADT and DOMA, and then Bush's Federal Marriage Amendment, and finally, Prop. 8. We have a LOT to be angry about.

But if Sullivan is saying he feels good about his meeting, fine. I guess that means he feels that Obama is going to deliver on his promises, and I'm happy about that. :)

2. I still like Obama, and I still despise Sullivan.

Sullivan blames the people for the the economic crisis.

I find it hard to believe how he can support any Democrat seeing just how right wing (Sullivan) is.

12. He was so tolerant and supportive of Bush throughout his first term

were we fortunate for that?

Not that this is anything similar, I'm just saying Sullivan's track record as a conservative doesn't make him any wiser than the rest of us.

7. Adult being the key word. I think people are so use to petty politics they can't see the
or understand someone like Obama with so much class and maturity. I am also relieved. Tuesday can not come fast enough for me.

8. Andrew Sullivan has been a passionate advocate for Obama.
Their political philosophies are different on many issues, but Sullivan stepped out of his comfort zone to support Barack. And he did it eloquently and passionately.

17. So am I, I was tinkled pink too when he did a complete 180 on Bush...

and turned against him, particularly on his handling of the war. I just don't feel that he deserves to be treated as some sort of font of conservative wisdom.

18. Wow.
Andrew Sullivan...a man I love to hate and hate to love.

The challenge is as real for a Krugman as for a Kristol, for Rick Warren as well as Gene Robinson -- pure genius. Kudos to Sullivan.
