Poll question: Chavez or Obama? You have to decide! (A LoZo-matic™ poll)
It looks like Chavez has thrown down the gauntlet, saying that Obama has the stench of Bush*! I disagree, of course, but now it looks like you have to choose sides! So which side do you choose to side with? I choose to side with America! :patriot:

This is a LoZo-matic™ poll. It contains only one choice, but you can vote for the other choice by replying to this message. To get the real results, do the math!

Thank you for participating in this LoZo-matic™ poll.

6. If you can vote for only one side IN the poll, it isn't actually a poll.
This is just McCarthyist. There isn't a progressive anti-Chavez position. Anymore than it was progressive to back UNO in Nicaragua like "even the Liberal New Republic" did.

You would agree, I hope, that nothing positive could come to the people of Venezuela from Chavez being overthrown and an austerity-and-privatization regime being put in its place, wouldn't you?

3. I choose to side with America only
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 04:59 AM by Steepler0t
Sounds totally freeperiffic.
I am very hopeful for Obama, not to mention proud of the party. but it does not mean I am going to become a blind nationalist. This is no time to be apathetic when so much hangs in the balance.
And I do not see why Chavez's comment were anti-Obama, he said he hoped he was wrong, but from what Obama has said in the debates he is pro-NAFTA which is not a good thing.
As I said before, hopefully he gets a broader view when in office and reverses the mistakes of *'s daddies little NAFTA scam on our neighbors.
In my opinion Clinton going along with * seniors NAFTA plan was a big mistake in a attempt to try and be bipartisan.
That's what you get for siding with the repugs, we all suffer.

5. This is sounding like some Foxnews
propaganda, with the nationalism and all.
If the guy actually killed anyone or was repressing his people then fine, I am anti.
Until then he provides fuel to the poor here, and HAS increased the standard of living for his people.
I find demonizing him stupid and only in the interests of big corporations who are pissed he nationalized his peoples oil fields. No thanks, I am outta here.
Good day fellow DUer.

It's part of your strategy. Stop. It's transparently manipulative.

My metaphor may not fit in all ways. Try to find the way I intended it to fit before you criticize it.

24. If you know anything about what the U.S. government has done to Latin America this century
You know that there is no such thing as an overreaction when people here talk about a progressive government down there the way you do. Coups usually follow. We need to make sure we never again do what we did to Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua(repeatedly)and all the other places where our leaders intervened.

And I also simply reject the idea that I should have to choose between Obama and Chavez. For one thins, Obama wouldn't want to make people make that kind of choice. Obama accepts that Chavez is a legitimate leader and that he's doing, more or less, what the Venezuelan people want.

When you say "choose one", you sound a lot like Joe McCarthy or John Foster Dulles. You need to be careful about EVER going there.

U.S. intervention in Latin America has never had positive effects. Too many of us remember the nightmares it caused.

9. Obama intends to renegotiate NAFTA
"Pro-NAFTA" is too strong and not an accurate description of Obama's views.

17. You can vote for either side.
If you'd like to vote for Obama, press the button in the poll.
If you'd like to vote for Chavez, please reply.

You can get the percentage by counting the Chavez votes in the replies and the Obama votes in the poll and calculating a percentage.

18. Of course I am on Obama's side because I live in this country and it is my best interest to see him
succeed. But at the same time, I understand the point that Chavez is making. Life is a two edge sword. Always has been. Always will be. Life is paradoxical.

21. Here's a thought...
Maybe Chavez said some mean things about Obama so that Americans would get all outraged and say mean things back to him which he can in turn use to convince his people that America is their enemy. I'll take my parents' advice on this one and not let the school yard bully get a rise out of me. Ignore Chavez and he will eventually learn that bothering us won't do him any good. It's really that simple.
