Willie Nelson has engaged in some highly inappropriate behavior, such as creating and distributing country music.

What a bunch of classist BS.

Which class am I discriminating against?

45. Broken. Fucking. Record.
You keep spewing "...has engaged in some highly inappropriate behavior, such as creating and distributing country music." instead of answering why "creating and distributing country music" is "highly inappropriate behavior."

You are sounding like an asshole who thinks "country music = dumb hick music", which is why I called you classist.

48. "instead of answering why" - You're right, I never answered your question.
Creating and distributing country music is offensive and inappropriate behavior because country music causes suffering and woe for all who hear it. Some people think that they like it, but then they verbally lash out at those around them, calling people names. Its really sad.

dumb hick music

I never considered 'dumb hick' to be a class, but I guess that it could be in some sense of the word. Are there other 'hick' classes I should be aware of?

and a passionate performer.

and I am a classically trained vocal soloist...
and appreciate most forms of music...

49. My meaning...
"I was an avid fan of Garth" + "and I am a classically trained vocal soloist..." = You were hoodwinked.

I am noticing the word, 'was' in your sentence, "I was an avid fan of Garth". Perhaps you were a fan, but then after your training, you realized your mistake. If this is the case, then money well spent!

11. WTF are you talking about...
Garth I suspect is a liberal. One of his hits back in the 90's was "We Shall Be Free," which even goes so far as supporting gay rights. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with Obama having him as part of the celebration. He is a hell of a performer.

17. So "change" is a bunch of performers on the stage whoring themselves out for publicity?
Change is single-payer health care. Change is marriage rights for gay couples. Change is allowing embryonic stem cell research.

How much money was spent on this concert? Couldn't this money have been put to better use? Is this really "change you can believe in"?

21. Actually, I'm just fine.
Hundreds of people are struggling to put food on the table, yet we should jump for joy when a bunch of celebrities show up for a concert?

"Change" to me is not one-upping George W Bush in the celebration department. Barack Obama is better than that.

33. It's not how I would have chosen to celebrate.
But I'm not reducing this to an either/or thing. Those hungry people would still be hungry whether there were a thousand celebrities performing, or just one juggler. This celebration isn't the reason they're hungry, and canceling it wouldn't be a cure for that hunger either.

Symbolism plays a huge part in our lives, from Coke signs to the crucifix. This celebration is symbolic to millions as a sign of change, of moving on to better times (as all these things are). To you (and myself, for the most part) it's symbolic of wasted money. And we're both right.

While your point is certainly one worthy of listening to (being dirt poor myself), the issue of hunger and poverty doesn't hinge on the Inauguration.

By the way...here are some more one-liners you might find useful...

Change we can make believe/not believe/ in!
don't see any f*cking change except for the worst!
Not the change I voted for
Not change, this is creeping conservatism
Change to the new right
Get behind the DLC and march along like good little soldier
Obama is a centrist perpetuating DLC Corporate crap
Obama made clear promises made that are now being broken.
Obama is Certainly not what he represented to us in the primaries.
Obama is the third Clinton term
Obama is a DLC stooge
Obama is ingnoring progressives that are the only reason he was elected.
Obama is going to face a severe backlash "from the population that elected him"
Obama is a Trojan Horse. He is in disguise to bring the DLC Centrists back in power.
Obama is so blind he is appointing a nazi
Obama has a seat for everyone at the table except those who elected him.
I want my money/vote back.

19. I'm paying attention, I just don't feel it.
I know things are already in motion, and I know things will get better in many, many ways over the next 4-8 years. But emotionally I'm just not feeling much of anything right now (politically speaking, that is). I feel like a huge battle has been one, but that there's still so many more that are just starting. We've spent 20 of the last 28 years under full on Republican rule, and I'm all tuckered out for a month or two.

I am very excited for people like yourself, who I know have been with Obama all along. I'm excited for Democrats in general, and hope we do something with the opportunity.

I haven't started any threads being a downer, and I haven't really even said much about it in any threads, pretty much keeping it to myself. But I had to chime in and say that it has nothing to do with not paying attention.

36. I think Dems tend to be a more cynical, or maybe just skeptical, lot.
For the most part it's a good thing. There's too many things wrong for anyone to be fully contented, and being cynical to an extent I think makes one a little more likely to hold someone's feet to the fire earlier.

But it can go too far as well, and we see some of that here lately. It's DU...it has to be expected. :)

I think there are some people like me who are just feeling more burned out than anything, and then there are a few holdovers that just really don't like Obama.
