I believe Obama should give up his Blackberry |
|
I worry about a future Ken Starr on Dan Burton trying to get their hands on it with a subpoena. It's fine right now as long as there is no independent counsel law, and the Democrats control Congress, but that is not guaranteed to always be the case.
Not to mention some grabby, selfish interest group with an agenda, and a love affair for filing lawsuits. Access to Obama's Blackberry could become the subject of repeated lawsuits by people with an ax to grind about some stupid (non)issue, who claim a "right" to see the Blackberry. Perhaps Obama would win all of those lawsuits or get them dismissed, but that is a hassle that we do not have time to deal with right now.

4. I thought Obama said he was going to bring the power of the executive branch more in line.. |
|
.. with historical norms?
Him defying a statute that was passed by Congress 3 decades ago says otherwise.
It would be nice for some of our members on this board to be consistent.

5. President Obama will know what he's doing |

I don't think he should give it up. Washington has to move into the 21st century and the security with it.
I read that the computers in the White House are being run with Windows 2000. Axelrod said that what with antiquated software and the loss of their Blackberrys and other handhelds because of security concerns their work is going to be more difficult and slow. The reason the Secret Service is doing this is because it's easier to handle security if they don't have these added problems, but why can't they adapt the security to the improved and updated communications of 2009?
I'm sure the Obama transition team has been working on this problem, and I hope they can find ways to continue to work as efficiently as they have during the two years of the Obama campaign.
