2. Otis is superb and here's Sam Cooke's version ..the man
who wrote A Change Is Gonna Come after being arrested with his band trying to register at an all White motel.

"The song, very much a departure for Cooke, reflected two major incidents in his life. The first was the death of Cooke's eighteen-month-old son, Vincent, who died of an accidental drowning in June of that year. The second major incident came on October 8, 1963, when Cooke and his band tried to register at a "whites only" motel in Shreveport, Louisiana and were summarily arrested for disturbing the peace. Both incidents are represented in the weary tone and lyrics of the piece, especially the final verse: "there have been times that I thought I couldn't last for long/but now I think I'm able to carry on/It's been a long time coming, but I know a change is gonna come."

3. Both are beautiful.
The song, as many may recall, was used at the end of the powerful movie, "Malcolm X."

4. They are and I didn't see
Malcom X but I saw in an issue of Rolling STone around Thankgiving time that Sam Cooke was the number 4 best singer according to their article and it was mentioned that A Change Is Gonna Come was one of the "key tracks". I didn't remember it but I bought it and have been loving it ever since.

I do remember Sam Cooke..he got me through Jr High with "You Send Me" and all his "Wonderful World" songs:)

5. Cooke was
good friends with a young man who used to be known as Cassius Clay.

His music is among the best.

6. Is it me or was Otis Redding one of the most soulful (soul strong) singers you've ever heard?
It is hard for me to accept Otis Redding's rendition when I've gotten used to hearing Sam Cooke's phrasing.

I heard Seal and Aretha Franklin's rendition too. I still feel Sam Cooke more.
