Questions: Does anyone know if Robinson feels "snubbed"? |
|
Also, was it just HBO who didn't show Robinson?
I've teh Googled for the answer and searched GD:P threads and couldn't find anything.
Thx

3. To answer the second question first, HBO was the only broadcast of the concert, so yeah. |
|
To answer the first question second: it isn't really about Mr. Robinson's personal feelings. It's, rather, about the disappointment felt by a significant number of American citizens and Democratic voters over a perceived snub to them as a community. Just as many were disappointed with the choice of someone who does not believe they deserve either equal respect or equal rights to kick off Tuesday's ceremonies, many were looking forward to the Sunday invocation to be given by a strong liberal and civil-rights pioneer. Their disappointment in his being excluded from the televised portion of the events is understandable, even if the degree of their expressed disappointment occasionally teeters on the irrational.

4. I think it's the "irrational" part that is getting me, the way this country treats women and gays... |
|
...is NOT a surprise but to find the subject making up a notable portion of GD:P post the day before Obama's inauguration is.

6. It is an unfortunate distraction in what should be a time of unified celebration, |
|
but then again, with Warren speaking on television and Robinson not, many people feel as if they're on the outside looking in, so to speak. While declarations of non-support for Obama and frenzied claims of homophobia are irrational and surely driven more by a personal desire to fight than by any honest response, I do believe some measure of disappointment is expected and perhaps even appropriate for anyone who was upset by Warren and looking forward to seeing Robinson.

9. He should. After all it's not about the prayer, it's about being on TV. |
|
Who cares if you get to give a prayer for the next President of the United States in front of thousands of people. If it isn't on TV, it don't mean jack!
Also, as I'm sure Robinson understands, that yesterday's festivities were really all about him, not Obama.

10. Its not about Robinson, or HBO |
|
or the prayer, or it being televised. Its just another reason to attack Obama. I fully expect inauguration day to be useless on this board. It;'ll be 50 Warren threads vs. 2 Lowery threads. We will barely be able to find anything worthwhile to read about Obamas inauguration. Poutrages will be everywhere.
If it wasn't Robinson being televised it would be some other made up shit.

12. I hope the policy tomorrow will be to lock all Warren related threads |
|
I think DU reached a consensus weeks ago that Warren is a homophobic tool who shouldn't be on stage. Tomorrow is the day to celebrate the new admin and not to focus solely on one or two negative things.

You couldn't be more right about that. It's a shame too, it's often the same group of posters finding something to blame Obama for.

And said he was honored to be included. It seems, if I heard him correctly, his was not a last minute invitation and he said if a full schedule of events had been published at the beginning people might not have been so upset by the Warren matter. He feels that Obama will do right by the GLBT community. "If there is one thing that is clear about the Obama admin, it is his intention to have a big tent. Obama is a man of his word."
