How have you served today |
|
Today is a day of service and giving back. What have you done to give back to the community today? I served at a homeless shelter for a few hours. I plan to head back there shortly.

For me it will have to wait until the weekend.
Thank you for doing what you are doing.

My public service will have to wait a little bit.
Maybe I could pick up some trash along one of the highways around here.

She runs a dog shelter.

3. Does it count if your normal job is of service? I view this day as an opportunity for those in |
|
"business" who, by definition, are not "of service" to make the time to do what many do every day in our jobs.

10. Thanks, I will live with that awesome burden... |
|
of it not meaning anything. Aw, shucks.... While I understand the OP's thoughts (at least I believe I do). I also believe it's not entirely necessary to proclaim a laundry list on a discussion board. It makes me neither greater or lesser than anyone else in doing so. I did nothing of great importance.

5. Walked 3 miles for a Special Olympics fundraiser |
|
Well, that wasn't a very big deal. But I went on to the usa service website and this project/event was (a) closest to our home and (b) the easiest to accomplish after returning from a trip this weekend.
Chris Kennedy (one of Bobby and Ethel's kids) is the president of the Merchandise Mart properties here in Chicago, and of course the Kennedys are big in Special Olympic activities. So there was a 3-mile walk (with minimum $25 donation) through the Merchandise Mart, starting on the 18th floor and walking around and down. Well, it's cold here, and it sounded like a worthy cause. I would rather have done something a little more people direct, but it's cold outside, and I didn't want to pass out fire prevention literature on the South Side!
We had fun looking in all the showroom windows, and later I felt like I'd done something tiny but good when I saw some of the mentally disabled kids who had been brought there.

9. I didn't serve. I rested. |
|
I serve every work day, well beyond my contractual hours and duties.
I did take time to remember and to reflect on the civil rights movement, which is the purpose of the day for me.

who belong to A Better World club. We wrote hand written letters to Obama on Katrina clean up and rebuilding and made cards for Soldiers.
We wrote to them and let them know we were participating on MLK's holiday as part of a call to National Service from Prez Obama.
