Just heard Gene Robinson on Talk of the Nation (NPR) ... and he still doesn't know why HBO ...
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 03:08 PM by gauguin57
... didn't air his prayer ... or, I should say, why his prayer was scheduled before the HBO broadcast (and feed it offered to NPR and other outlets) began. "I have no idea," he kept saying. He was charitable in not assuming HBO was trying to silence him because of previous controversies.

NPR hasn't been able to get HBO to explain anything to them, either. But Neil Conan said NPR learned that Obama's team saw the schedule in advance, and knew that Robinson was scheduled to pray BEFORE the HBO feed was to start(which kind of bothered me, if it's true ... but I think things are still a little confusing as to who knew what when, so I'll wait to hear more.)

1. You're trying extra hard aren't you. It's pretty simple. Robinson wasn't part of the actual concert
performances.

3. Ugh. I am really sick of people on this board thinking they can read people's minds ...
... and assume WHY they're posting something. A lot of people have been asking questions about this, and I was simply adding to the discussion something I just heard on the radio.

"Trying extra hard." What-ever. Before Obama brings this nation together, I hope he can bring Democrats together. Geez.

2. Let's be honest... religious invocations aren't the biggest ratings draw
The vast majority of the people watching this broadcast did not tune in to watch a clergyman.

4. HBO is a progressive channel...

and religious invocations aren't really progressive but something belonging to the dark ages. I think.

6. Thank you for posting that. I appreciate the Obama campaign's explanation.
"Ratings draw" or not, I think a lot of people wanted to hear the invocation. Especially those, like me, who will be plugging their ears and praying to themselves while Rev. Ricky Homophobe Misogynist Warren is praying tomorrow.

7. SInce when does anyone care that a prayer wasn't televised.
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 03:22 PM by Phx_Dem
Yawn.

And for all those so outraged, I have to ask. Did you all go to church in Sunday? I assume so since prayer is so vital to you. Or is it only important when given by a gay man and only on TV.

9. I wanted to see the prayer because it was being given by Gene Robinson, and I knew it would rock.
And it did rock.

10. I hoped it would rock
and I was completely depressed by it and actually glad it wasn't on. It would have been depressing to start such a joyous event with doom and gloom and don't forget to feel miserable about all the woes of the world. I hate that shit.
