Really, how long ago has it been, two and a half months? And I finally got my paycheck from the county elections office for my service. I'm just glad I got paid at all. Sheesh.

9. Yes, but it had nothing to do with the money
I got some much-needed counsel in response to my doldrums on Saturday. I asked the mods to lock that post so it wouldn't get in the way of the growing celebration on DU. People have the right to be happy, even if for just this one moment in time.

On Wednesday, the real work begins.

2. So you did it just for the money? That's too bad.

6. Now where did I say anything like that?
I'm happy to have served my home precinct in that capacity. I'm the freakin' precinct chair.

Geez. And I thought I was being cynical...

11. Wouldn't you be?
Ever serve as an election judge? It's a tiring, complicated, and sometimes thankless job. But someone's got to do it, damn it.

In addition, my home precinct was the only one in our neck of the woods to go blue in 2008.

13. Psssst. Come in here, I have a secret...
I was the Poll Worker Training Coordinator for Orange County, CA until a year and a half ago. Every election cycle, I was responsible for the training of up to 7,000 Poll Workers. I created the materials, coordinated the training venues, and hired the people who would do the training. Then I trained the trainers. On election day I supervised the Poll Worker Hotline. The first time I did it (after taking over for the previous training coordinator) we took over 16,000 phone calls. The last time, only 1,200. On election night I worked in the Registrar of Voters' warehouse coordinating the return of election related materials and machinery.

I know a little about how to operate the polls mmmhmmm.

And yes, I have served as an election judge. I would have done it for free. Facilitating the democratic process is that important to me.

That answer your question?

14. If I had any of that paycheck left, I'd buy YOU the next round
Well done, indeed.

When I signed up for election judge duty, I did so under the impression that I wasn't going to get paid for it. But, lo and behold, I did, and since our little family has been inundated with medical bills for two-legged and four-legged critters alike, I won't turn it down.

What you did, however, took some serious sweat and tears, and I hope there's still a bunch of voters in Orange County who respect you for that.

12. Normally, I'd say "Sure"
Unfortunately, it's already been spent. :(

It all went towards a good cause. ginbarn and I rescued an abandoned kitty last month, and she seriously needed medical attention, which doesn't come cheap.
