3. I mentioned that to my husband earlier today. Thousands of people
have been in DC since Friday, and more and more each day, and I haven't seen even ONE protest! No problems of any kind! I'm THRILLED, but amazed! So much for the RW saying the lefties are always trouble makers, huh?

10. Were there ANY? I'm sure the media would have jumped at the chance
to show anything like that, and I didn't see or hear of any. The only negative I heard anywhere was a note on the radio that last Thur. I think, there was some get together, lunch or something, and everything was great inside, but outside, there were a group of nuts screaming that "you're all baby killers and all going to hell." I only heard that report once and it was on an Oregon station that I listen to all the time.

I honestly think the pubs who would have been protesting are so shamed and dispondent they didn't even have the ambition to fight anymore. I'm right!

12. Wow THANK YOU for posting this... I was wondering about this earlier
and how or what (if anything) might end up in the news. I was mostly worried about people getting frostbite, though, as far as police incidents were concerned. I like to think that there was no mischief at any time or any location throughout this whole event, and I've yet to hear something to the contrary...

Thanks for posting - I really was curious and hoped for this result.

Even if things did happen but were so minor or infrequent that they just didn't get reported, I'm still not surprised at the lack of hostility or crime or conflict, because people really seemed just so purely joyous and connected. We were much more of a team today... all of us. At least that's the sense I got.

Even if some (or most) of this sense of good will fades over time, we made collective, positive progress because of this day, I think. We gained something truly valuable as a whole and individually, and that's just so... wonderful.

Reality will sober us up some, though, as it always does, but we will never lose the gift of this day that is now in our hearts - even if we forget from time to time, we won't lose it - unless we do so deliberately, but that would just be dumb. I don't think there will be many takers for that.

What a good, healing day.

13. It's the positive vibe and good will of the Obama crowd. Seriously.
This is also why there were no trampling deaths etc., discussed in my description of my day down on the mall.

16. There were 4 million people on The Mall...
more than the entire population of the US in 1790... and not one arrest???

Must have been too busy singing to be committing crimes!

18. I don't mean to bring down the good vibes here, but a police were probably so busy with crowd...
direction and security checks, that they were stretched too thin to start arresting people. If 4 million people roll into a town they could likely do whatever they want. They could possibly even topple the government.

24. the rowdiest thing I saw was people running on top of the porta potties
it was a well-behaved, at times boisterous, crowd, all out to have a great time. Makes it a lot easier on the cops if the crowd is in a good mood to begin with.

20. Ah ... there's a new sheriff in town, the evil one flew away, headin' down Texas way, I hear.
:)

I wondered how the police would handle today, so this is very good news.

I'm just sorry there were problems with a lot of people not getting in to see it all. Someone posted over at Firedoglake that generators weren't working, which meant they couldn't handle the security screening process, causing a very large log-jam of frustrated, cold, fatigued, and angry well-wishers.

21. Amazing.
When you have an actual elected President taking the oath of office I guess nobody feels the need to bring ski masks or pitchforks.

I have to admit today just turned me inside-out. All the pain of the last 8 years just came up for review at one time and maybe the coping part started. For all those lucky enough to be there today maybe they were feeling the same thing.
